lower abdominal pain during sex

I have been getting lower abdominal pain during sex for the past couple of years. It can happen in any position. I've not done anything about it but now I am TTC I'm worried it could be something that might cause problems.

Any suggestions what it could be?

I'm off to the doctor next week about it

As well as my original question I wonder if anyone could give me any idea what to expect at the doctor? I'm guessing urine test and something unpleasant involving a speculum ?

Is such pain also cyclical in nature in that does it get worse up to time of menstruation?. What are your periods like pain wise?.

Deep pain during sex could be indicative of endometriosis.

(Also if endo was present it would not be picked up through any urine test, internal ultrasound, swab or blood test).

GPs are not always up to speed on this type of issue and can thus mess around in ignorance; I would just ask for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation.

I don't think it's cyclical, I haven't noticed any change throughout the month. I've been on the pill for 5 years during which time I had very light or non existent periods. The pain is worse now I'm not taking the pill, but not unbearable.

I've kind of been trying to ignore it since it started. Only told DH yesterday when I realised that it needed investigating in case it was something that would affect us TTC. And I'd enjoy sex more without any 'ouch' moments as it really is uncomfortable!

I'm going to ask for a female GP as they might be more sympathetic and I'd be less bothered about them looking at my bits!

I had a bit of pain during sex still do sometimes, its not regular for me but just every now and again it really hurts. Mine is because of Fibroids.

I hope the doctor is sympathic, I'm sure they will be, especially as your ttc.

In my young, free and single days i went out with a few different guys and had this problem and if I'm honest, the pain was definitely related to the guy's 'size'... dh isn't very large and I've never had the problem with him. I also suffered with cervical erosions which I haven't had with him either.

Could it be size related and the depth of penetration?

I get the same, after years of tests, scans, laparoscopy nothing was found. I was basically told by a
Gynae that my partner and I mustn't be compatable!!!
The first lot of testing they referred me for we're stds at the GUM clinic, after that I can't really remember.

If its any consolation the pain did ease after my first pregnancy although it's still there it's much more bearable and I can usually still enjoy sex as long as I'm relaxed or have had a glass of wine. Also making sure my bowels are regular seems to help (?!)

I get this sometimes. I have endo and I find it gets a little more uncomfortable around ov. Also as said above, I find it much better if I've emptied my bowel before hand.

DH isn't exceptionally large. And I don't think it's ov related as it happens nearly every time we DTD. Not sure about the bowel thing, I haven't noticed that it makes any difference though.

This does warrant further investigation from a gynaecologist rather than a GP as they have more specialist knowledge.

As I stated earlier deep pain during sex is very suggestive of endometriosis being present.

I'd see what doc says maybe. I rembrr talking to a nurse about it when I was 17 and she said I had quite a low cervix. I still am not sure quite whether that's true or what it means but she said DH might be be bumping it which might be causing pain?
