So if you've only just started to think that you might try to conceive soon and decide to have a browse around the Mumsnet forums for tips, don't stray in to the birth section and start reading about tearing. Seriously. I JUST learned this the hard way. Think I'll be off sex for a while now... :-/

Although I see what you are saying, I think most people on this forum really want a baby and so won't be thinking too much about the birth stage just yet or put off by it. Women who've experienced miscarriages will be taking any pregnancies day by day.

Have you just started TTC OP?

I was being a bit tongue in cheek in saying, aarrgghh I'm right at the very beginning and I skipped several pages ahead and went straight to the birth section! Didn't put me off though, just made me think I should be taking it one stage at a time too and be clued up but also not race straight ahead and read too much too soon! I want to enjoy this not be terrified (although I am anyway!).

The thing that really impressed me was how candid everybody is in talking about this. I'm 28 and none of my close friends have children yet so we haven't had any conversations on those elements to really brutally, honestly share what it is like so good to find this place. A couple have already started TTC so plenty of support there though.

Not quite started yet. We always wanted to leave London and get back up north closer to our families first, which we are doing in a month when we move to a new place. Came off contraceptive injection a year ago though to make sure it was all out of my system. Had proper, real periods for about 3 months now so when we're moved and settled, time to get going!

Ah bless you suddenly it can be a shocker when you first read stuff like that but don't unnecessarily stress yourself with that part just yet.
Of course you must make yourself aware for when the time comes - what is the saying? - Forewarned is forearmed.
Even though you know about this stuff, doesn't mean it WILL happen to you.
I've had 3 vag births, all big bruisers with the biggest being 10lbs 7oz and I done it with no intervention and didn't get so much as even 1 stitch. (just to add I 'didn't' nor 'do I have' a fanjo like a wizards sleeve :) )
I'm ttc#4 at the minute and it's in the back of mind about what can happen during a birth, but for now it can bloody well stay there :) - I'm more concerned with just getting a little bean to stay in there.

Thanks for the good wishes - I'm just starting month 2 (AF got me today booo!)

Another word of wisdom I forgot to add.....and I'm quite sure I speak for many ladies here - By the time giving birth comes around, you're not actually thinking about anything other than getting your precious bundle of joy THE HELL OUTTA THERE! :) for the last few weeks - every week feels like a month :)

Yes, it's not all horror stories, after giving birth to DC#2 I thought "wow, I could have 10 more!"
