weird bleeding on day 15 of cycle, anyone know why?

Hi all,

I'm TTC on my first cycle since terminating a pregnancy at 13 weeks (because the baby wouldn't have survived) so obviously don't know how long the cycle will be. AF arrived 15 days ago and I'm fairly sure I haven't ovulated yet; I've been doing OPKs since day 9 and had a few faint positives and yesterday's test was still faint but darker than previous days, so maybe I'll ovulate today or tomorrow. Anyway, yesterday I saw a bit of bright red blood, and there is a bit more today. Not as much as AF, but I can't think why there should be any blood at this point in the cycle. I've also had a bit of cramping, so maybe that is related to the bleeding. The only thing I can think of is implantation bleeding if I ovulated really early in the cycle and got pg, but surely it can't be that.
Anyway, does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

Hi Owainsmum,

It could be estrogen breakthrough bleeding from an anovulatory cycle. When there's not enough progesterone because of an anovulatory cycle the estrogen is unable to regulate the endometrium. The lining builds up until it cannot sustain itself any longer and you get breakthrough bleeding.

It may not be this and you could be pregnant as you suggested, but lots of women have the odd anovulatory cycle every couple of years or so. They're more common once you get into your 30s and beyond.

The only way of knowing for sure is by getting your blood tested I'm pretty certain.

Thanks for the reply Bearface, I have been doing a bit of googling and think it may be ovulation bleeding and cramps. The bleeding has pretty much stopped now, so lasted about 24 hours, and was very light, and according to my OPKs I was expecting to ovulate today or tomorrow probably, but will do an OPK this evening to check. I'm sure I'm not pg yet, although it would be great if I am
