Pregnancy test changed from neg to pos overnight

I took a test yesterday afternoon and it was negative after 3-4 mins (the recommended time to look was 3 mins) so I binned it. Today, out of sheer curiousity, I look again, and it's showing a faint positive line. I also binned a neg test which I took at 5 dpo (I know, I know) and it's still negative.

Can I interpret this newly developed line as a positive? I'm now about 11 dpo, I've got loads of symptoms and I'm pretty much convinced I'm pregnant but obviously am desperate to know for sure.

MT2

IF, and I repeat IF, I did scurry out of the house and down the hill to Boots (heartlessly ignoring the probable arrivval of DH's parcel) and hence purchase the much recommended pg test, would it detect my hormones this late in the day when I've already drank many pints of water today?

yes celadine - if you get clearblue or similar it doesn't matter when you do it

Report
mears · 19/01/2004 15:36

It should do. However, it might be best to wait till tomorrow morning and do it then Good luck

Celandine..... it's the call of your hormones though.... you couldn't possibly be held responsible for missing the postman.

All the tests I did were after work at teatime. And I did 8 over 2 weeks..... just to make sure.

Quackers, the internet test sticks (Acon) say they detect from 25Hg, though I know what you're saying about the cheap brands maybe being unreliable. I used them successfully on my last pregnancy so assume they're ok though I am currently considering whether to dash out and get a better test at Boots or just wait until my cheap ones arrive tomorrow and rely on them.

Hmmmm, I'm staring at my negative-turned-positive internet stick with its rather uncertain pink line, and thinking how I'd love to know for sure.

You know what - I think I might just go and visit Boots. Then I could tell DH when he gets home rather than waiting yet another day....AND... (ooh, getting excited now) I could do another test tomorrow on my cheap sticks - just for the pure hell of it !!!

Oh God what did I start!!!! SORRY!!!!!!!!!
I have had positive results at this time of day 11 DPO, but was inclined to agree with Mears and wait till tomorrow! However, when the hormones call, then Boots pockets the profit!!! We're all waiting!!!!!

Oh, it's negative

It's first response but I guess it's still really early as AF isn't due until Thurs, and I know they only pick up 50% of women at this stage. I blame you all for getting me too excited!!!

I'm still quite sure I am pg but will wait until my other tests arrive tomorrow.

Well, sorry to keep this going on but I really don't know what to think now. I had some pink spotting this morning which probably is AF coming, but it's completely gone now. AF is due in around 2 days. Could be implantation? (or maybe I'm just brainwashing myself!)

Worst of all, last night I was SO convinced by my symptoms that I told dh I thought I was pg. He spent the rest of the evening in shock and I spent the rest of the evening feeling guilty for telling him when I wasn't sure. Then this morning I told him I'd got some blood so I've sent him off to work in complete confusion.

I had more weird dreams last night (I've had 2 nights of REALLY vivid dreams now) and I'm still got the same dull pelvic ache I've had for a week or so.

And I'm now sat inside, obsessively typing 'implantation bleeding' into google and glancing out the window every 2 mins hoping the postman will bring my internet preg tests. I can't hnk about anything else. Aaaagh - I guess this is why people tell you to ignore symptoms and don't test early !!

Oh celadine, I'm feeling for you. It is so horrible all the thoughts and fantasies we seem to have to go through every month. DP can't see why ttc is so difficult, because he doesn't go through all the "is it, isn't it?" every four weeks.

I have a theory that ttc periods are just plain weird. I think someone should do some research on it! Since starting ttc most of my periods have had three or four days of feeble spotting, and then disappearing tantalisingly for 24 hours. AF already comes along in the end.

Sorry to be negative, fingers crossed for you!

Celandine - Have you had this type of spotting before your AF in the past?
This must be so frustrating for you!

celandine · 20/01/2004 11:16

Thanks Fisil and M2T. Deep down now I really don't think I am pg, think I'm just winding myself up.

The stupid thing is that I wasn't even TTC; we were planning to wait until ds was at least a year). But since I started to suspect I might be pg I've gotten so used to the idea that now I actually will be miserable if I'm not! Mad, mad...

M2T - it's pink spotting which is very like AF beginning. I've never had spotting before, just the start of AF. It's all clear now but I'm expecting it to return later.

Reckon I might go curl up on the sofaand watch Dirty Dancing!

If you're not pregnant then I'm sure the next 6 months until you plan to ttc will just fly by!! It always does when you're watching your baby grow up.

Quackers · 20/01/2004 15:47

What a mad couple of days you've had! It could be implantation if it's pink, but you will just not know! It usually happens between 6-10 days after conception. Sorry this is causing you so much heartache, hope you find out one way or another soon!!!

Well, now I know that I'm definitely not pg. AF came this morning, as did my preg tests. I tested negative, of course. What's more embarrassing is that I realised yesterday that my neg-turned-pos pregnancy test wasn't real at all. You see, whilst looking for a preg test a few days ago I'd found a couple old positive tests I'd kept when I was preg with ds. I threw one in the the bin and...yeah, you've guessed it - dopey me had completely forgotten I'd binned it and when I looked on Monday morning I mistook it for my new test I'd done the night before. Duh!!! I was totally convinced I was pg when I saw two lines on a stick.

I'm really sorry to have taken up two massive thread on this (and panicked Melsy and Suzywong about the chances of getting preg by withdrawal!) when it was just me being dumb. I really can't believe how much I read into my symptoms either - I honestly was so convinced I was pg!! At least maybe it serves as a warning to me and others that you may have every symptom in the book but you should never assume until you've tested.

DH is admittedly relieved, and I am mildly disappointed but I know it's best in the long run. We agreed to start trying properly in August when ds is about a year old. Yay...can't wait!!

By the way, suzywong, did you take a test?

Oh Celandine,
sorry you got all excited and into baby fantasy. And thanks for being so candid and sharing it all with us.

I am in splendid denial about the whole thing as it would be a long shot but DH is out shopping now so will call him and ask him to pick up a clearblue.

I mentioned this thread to him last night and that we really should think about contraception. He said 'abstinence' or words to that effect. I'm going to get a diaphragm I think.

I'm really quite sure I'm not but you never know and Motherinferior posted about two people she knew of who didn't know they were pg untile they felt the baby move !!!!!!!!!

If you see a new thread entitled 'Oh Bloody Nora!' that will be mine.
