As if ttc wasn't nerve wrecking enough, we like the extra challenge of getting that BFP while still breastfeeding a baby or toddler. While this isn't an easy endouvour, it certainly isn't impossible as many graduates on the previous threads prove.

I'm posting a link here for any newcomers about fertility while breastfeeding.

Am also wonderig if you'd like to have some sort of stats for the tread members. I'll just start myself.

Hi Squidgers. I know what you mean. I pick dd up at 4.30, we get back 5 mins later and I get pinned to the sofa for about an hour!

We are a long way off night weaning. Dd is nearly nine months and seems to feed more at night than ever, perhaps something to do with the cosleeping Smile we spent a day setting up the cot alongside the bed but even that is too far away for her - anything less then actually being attached to me all night isn't good enough it seems!

I go all day without feeding her on weekdays though. 8 until 4.30, I sometimes pump at about 3.30. I wonder if I will have to also nightwear for fertility to return. But also want to make sure I don't accidentally fully wean until she's one. (Fat chance I think) Grin

catellington · 13/11/2013 19:48

Aaaargh nightwean not nightwear!!!

Hi all, sorry for the long silence. We have all had a really nasty bug over the last week or so and been feeling very sorry for ourselves. I am just coming out of it now I think and ds seems a bit better but still really pale and sleeping a lot. It's been more tough than usual as he is still not interested in bf at all, just turns away from me or cries when I offer. I was so realiant on it as a comfort for him, especially when he's ill so I'm struggling to find other things to make him feel better, I feel a bit useless really! Thankfully he is eating ok and drinking lots of milk from a cup so at least I'm not worried about nutrition. I have also been expressing twice a day so he gets some antibodies from me to help him get over whatever this is.

So, I may have to reluctantly bow out of this thread as I am no longer a breastfeeding ttcer (or does expressing count?!) I plan to keep offering for a while longer in case he changes his mind but am losing hope now.
Thanks for the co-sleeping tips, I haven't done anything about it yet due to all the illness but we are travelling somewhere very cold next weekend to visit family so may give it a go then (partly to keep ds warm!) and if it goes well we can keep it up when we get home.

Cat, I'm sure it is possible to get your bfp without night weaning, but I also think cutting back on night feeds is very unlikely to cause full weaning. I gradually encouraged ds to reduce night feeds between 9 - 14 months (very slow process) and the only difference was that he got more keen on having a good long morning feed.

Yay for ov BlackBerry, all fingers crossed for you this month!

Squidgers I used the cheap ov sticks from amazon while ttc with ds, they worked fine (although it got a bit addictive to poas especially as they were so cheap so I am trying to resist the urge this time!)

Thanks Mister and hope you don't feel too down about the bf. yes please do stay with us! I must say I really like this thread as it's particularly friendly!

Blackberry things do sound positive for you, so I'm sending you lots of lucky vibes!

I have been taking my temp in the mornings, there is a 4degree swing from the lowest to the highest it has been so I guess that the average is my baseline. Im now going to hold off actually 'trying' until January so that (shallow) I can enjoy some wine over Christmas and new year.

My best friend is 7weeks pg and my neighbour just had a beautiful dd so I am feeling very broody though!

we have now been ttc for over 2 months and the ov sticks are on there way but i'm so much more impatient this time round. I got a bfn this week an was so upset. I shouldn't be surprised as no AF still.

Blackberry so sorry about your DH's job, did they give any explanation at all? It must have been a bit of a shock for you both, hope he finds something better soon.

I don't usually stick to any food rules during 2ww (other than minimal alcohol which I do anyway due to bf). It wouldn't matter until it's attached anyway (although I suppose a bout of food poisoning wouldn't help) and then I figure most people wouldn't have any clue so early and would keep eating /drinking as usual so the risks are pretty small. Probably would be a bit stricter if I felt pregnant I suppose. Then again, I don't pay much attention to the food rules while pg anyway, other than trying to eat reasonably healthily and paying more attention to use by dates, food hygiene etc. I don't really like blue cheese, shellfish or sushi anyway so with ds I just cut out alcohol, brie and pate in the 1st trimester (and cut down on caffiene) and then only had them occasionally in 2nd & 3rd. I think it's just the risk of food poisoning with blue cheeses isn't it (I never eat the stuff so bit hazy on the details)? So assuming you are fine then no harm done!

Although, thinking about it I should probably try to drink less coffee anyway as I'm a bit dependent on it at the moment to get me to work after sleepless nights with ds and it won't help with ttc either.

Sensible to resist testing I think. I know what you mean about not feeling it as I knew straight away with ds too. In fact I was so convinced that I didn't believe the (seemingly) negative pregnancy test, called dh to say I was pretty sure I was pg and then bought a different test to try which gave me my bfp (later found a very faint line on the first). So I have sort of been assuming I will know this time around too, but it could be completely different so don't give up on this month! Don't forget also that you've already got lots of bf hormones floating around so it might feel very different this time.

Hi lelly and Not. The ov sticks are tricky I think, it's really easy to miss the positive if you ov when you're not expecting it. I found temping much more reliable as my cycle was always quite irregular but I could always pinpoint ovulation that way, so I would recommend trying that if you are not sure whether you are ovulating. I'm planning to start temping again this week for the same reason. Sorry about the croup Not, that sounds like very hard work. I hope your ds feels better soon.

I am due to ov on Thursday (although last cycle was just over 2 months so could be any time really) so should be lots of swi at the moment but we've all been ill and are away staying with family, so it's not really happening!

NotInYourNature · 18/11/2013 14:29

Last night was much better thank you but he is very accident prone today and is ow sporting a bruise on his face from falling into the table :(
i think i will start temping tomorrow. a friend is sending me 60 ov tests as she doesn't want them which is great so i will use them too when they arrive.
I was definitely getting stirings of something but i don't know if its AF getting ready to show her face or just getting ready to ov. I have never wished for AF to come but now i am

black i have not had AF since ds was born.Forgot to temp today but till start tomorrow.
Sorry that you think AF is coming

lelly78 · 19/11/2013 17:15

Thanks mister safety for comments about ov sticks, I have never used them pre baby so it is hard to know! Does anyone have any knowledge or thoughts about temping when you are up in the night? Usually only 1 wake up about 4 then up about half 5 Sad would it work? Should I do it at the 4am wake?
Hope you are all well, it's hard to reply on here as can't see previous messages x

ekk0 · 19/11/2013 19:52

hi everyone
sorry to hear about your DH blackberry, and hi lelly and not. we've had a run of illness in our family, which has definitely not helped with cutting down the bf. I just got 'taking charge of your fertility' which suggests that to get fertility to return you need gaps of at least 6 hours overnight and 4 in the day if bf. I'm sure these aren't the same for everyone, but now DD2 is better I've been more conscious of trying to ensure 4 hour gaps in the day, as she is already night-weaned. Everyday i keep hoping today will be the AF day...!
sending baby dust, or return of AF dust to everyone, depending on what phase of it all you are in.

How old is your lo eek?
