Ive notice even before I had ds that my cycles vary from 24~29. Now im paying more attention to things what happens with ovulation? Will that vary from month to month or could it stay the same?

Ovulation can vary depending on your circumstances - stress and illness are just 2 things that can delay your period.

Your luteal phase (the part of your cycle after ovulation) is pretty standard, only varying by a day or two. So if you ovulate late for whatever reason you can still roughly predict when you next period is due by adding on the number of days in your luteal phase.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 13:21

I meant "delay ovulation", not your period

babyrose · 18/02/2013 14:36

So if my period came early then I've ovulated earlier in my cycle?

How long is the luteal phase? Sorry for all the questions!

a normal luteal phase is between 10 and 16 days. It varies for women to women but your own shouldn't vary by more than a day. Yes, most likely if your period was early then your ov was on the early side of what is normal for you. For example, if your luteal phase is 12 days and your cycle that month was 24 days, your ov day was day 12.

I know that last month and the month before I got ovulation twinges on day 12 and 13 how long after that do u think ovulation would be 2 or 3 days maybe?

OP posts:
dondon33 · 18/02/2013 16:44

My cycle used to be the similar to yours baby on my 24 day cycles I would ov between day 11 and 13.
My cycles have now sorted themselves out at 26/27 days and I ov usually day 13/14 now.
We're all different though and it's not an exact science so the only way to know is to monitor yourself. If you started testing with OPK's then start on day CD8 until you see a positive surge in the LH hormone - it still doesn't tell you exactly when but you get a better idea.

babyrose · 18/02/2013 16:49

Ive used them once and got a surge on day 13 and haven't used them since.

How long after a surge do u think ovulation would occur?

OP posts:
dondon33 · 18/02/2013 16:54

Meant to add - You don't know what the ov twinges are - whether they occur before, during or after your egg is released.
E.G- before ov I get sore boobs but I don't really feel much with twinges or pain until during the egg being released. Another poster could get cramping and pain before and other symptoms during or after.
When you get a positive result using the OPK's you can usually expect to ovulate within the next 12-36 hours.

babyrose · 18/02/2013 17:06

I was thinking it was the beginning of ovulation as I did notice brown cm around this time before TTC.

Roughly so far im guessing between day 12 to 16 without using opk's.

If you want to know exactly what day then you could try BB temping. It confirms that you actually do ov and when.
I don't currently do it, I don't sleep well and I'm up and down during the night so don't think it would work well for me - but maybe will if I can't get pg so long down the line.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 17:49

Just remember that BB temping can only tell you after ovulation has happened, it can't tell you when it will happen.

babyrose · 18/02/2013 17:54

I think I will pick up opk's and try temping. Af has just finished so I guess im too late this month.

OP posts:
FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 17:59

No you can start with your OPKs and maybe even your temping if you are still in the early stages of your cycle. The temps might be a bit trickier to find an average for, but if you sign up for www.fertilityfriend.com it can help you make some sense of it all.

Treat this cycle as a test run and see how you get along with it all.

babyrose · 18/02/2013 18:05

Ok thanks for your help. With ds I just calculated that I was on average 28 days and counted 16 days before and after af. I had no idea about luteal phases so this is completely new to me this time around.

Don't get too hooked up on having sex on specific days, just make sure you are doing it two or three times a week and you should be fine. Good luck.

babyrose · 18/02/2013 18:41

I will try not too! Thanks
