Ovulation question! Help!

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.... If I didn't ovulate this month which has meant I haven't had a period, how will I know when I'm going to ovulate again? Do I just use the dates I would use if I had had a period?

Not ovulating does not necessarily mean no period... are you sure you are not pregnant or perhaps just ovulated late and therefore your period isn't due yet?

The best way to tell when/if you ovulate is by using a combination of OPK's and taking your temperature daily. If you get cheap OPK's from the internet you can use them throughout your cycle to help identify what is going on

Hi cats, thank you for your response. I used clearblue OPKs and that told me I had a LH surge on the 15th jan. I am a week late tomorrow and keep getting BFNs so I'm thinking maybe I didn't ovulate at all

So whist the OPK's tell you it's likely that you ovulated around the 15th, you won't know for sure unless you were taking your temps.
I assume you didn't carry on using OPK's after your surge? Some people have a couple of surges during their cycle and only ovulate after the 2nd or 3rd surge. You can also have a surge and not ovulate.
Have you taken a pregnancy test?

Wardy17 · 14/02/2013 22:50

No I didn't the instructions said stop after your surge is detected this is the first time I've used OPKs I don't even know how to take my temps. Yes I've taken a few tests all negative! 1 week late tomorrow

Ok so I would say either you didn't ovulate (had a surge but no O) and ovulated later than you expected OR you are pregnant (some people don't get a BFP until more than a week after AF is due).

I would call your doctor, sure all if fine but they can do blood tests for pregnancy and then depending on results decide what to do next. Good luck

Ps - would recommend taking temperatures in the future, they will help you confirm for certain that you have ovulated after your surge

If you are not pg and didn't ovulate, you will eventually get your period then it starts again. I've had some weird annuvolatory cycles that lasted 45 days.
You may have ovulated late though.

Wardy17 · 15/02/2013 09:33

Thanks for your advice it's been really helpful. Spoke to doc on wed he said they won't give me a blood test until I'm 2 weeks late I really hope I don't have to wait another week for AF to arrive

Do either of you know will I ovulate again around the same time as if I would have had my period? Or do I need to wait for my next period before I can try again?

You're either pg or having a strange cycle. I personally found that I ovulated about the same day (19) each cycle except for strange cycles where I had no idea what was going on, and think I may have had a chemical pregnancy (very early loss).
If your period returns I would suggest getting a thermometer on eBay and start temping and charting, if you get a rise after a positive opk then you can be virtually certain that you did ovulate, though it will take you 2-3 months to get used to the pattern, then hopefully you will be pg by then. The temp rise is also when you can stop having sex for that month! Unless you want to carry on that is.

Hi, dont know if it will help but I read a post from a natural fertility expert on how to tell when you are fertile. It was how to tell your bodies signs for fertility, it was quite interesting, may help I don't know?! forum.prideangel.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=537 Hope this helps, good luck!! xxx

Honestly if I were you I'd go the old fashioned route and just have sex a lot, that way you won't miss your window regardless of when it is. In my experience you can put too much stock in testing for everything, I have been guilty of it but there's only one way to get pregnant, get busy and have fun doing it! Your body knows what to do. Hope you're pregnant already though.

Best of luck! x
