Can it actually be too late when the opk turns positive?

I know this is a slightly mad question as surely if it's too late by this point then opks are pointless!
However I've always had a sign which I've thought means I've already ovulated but it appears that I actually get this sign just before the opks turn positive.

But the opks are positive before ovulation aren't they because they are the sign that your body is gearing up to ovulate (even if it eventually doesn't)? They aren't positive AFTER ovulation, right?

We dtd yesterday and my opk was positive last night and we have dtd again this morning (opk still positive) so do I assume I still haven't ovulated?

It shouldn't be as confusing as this to a 30 year old woman should it?!

TIA

Hi - are you talking about increased vaginal discharge or mittelschmertz?

I get these and yes it has been 1-2 days before my OPK gives me a smiley face - I have also gotten pregnant both times I used OPKs in this way so it must be ok - having said I have always dtd from when my period stops and use OPK to make sure we definitely dtd during the most vital days

my DH tends to need a rest bless him!

Thanks.
Yes increased ewcm, loads of it (sorry tmi) and then it seems to be mainly gone by the time the opk turns positive.
I would usually try and dtd before the opk is positive but dh was away this month so the first chance was yesterday which was also the first day of the positive opk. Just wondered if we were still in with a chance!

yes I believe you are - my (admittedly limited understanding) is that the positive OPK indicates ovulation will occur in following 24 hours.

if you dtd in the days leading up to a positive OPK then technically sperm can survive in you for a few days so you have that sperm waiting so to speak then if you dtd on the day of and day after positive OPK then you have fresh sperm added and its whomever gets to the egg first.

I make my poor DH dtd about 3 days leading up to when I expect to get positive OPk then that day and if I can the following 2 days

hence his needing a rest or 'night off' as he charmingly puts it!
