Put on your vest/shades and grab your weapons, it's Action Hero Time.

The BESH are experts in all matters action, but specialise in taking out the local droids and sometimes Druids Wink

S'all go innit?!

I'm Faith, 31 and married to MSB (Mr Squidgy Baby) for 4 and a bit years. Started trying to win a baybee Christmas 2009. Futile shagging, couple of ??chemical pregnancies and muchos testing revealed male factor ishoos (growth on pituitary gland sending hormones out of whack, hence the poor swimmers). Started treatment in December 2011 - 11 months after starting investigations - and got diffed in August 2012. I blame the Olympics Wink DC1 due April 23rd :) Will have to stay in for 48 hours after laying baybee because I'm taking codiene for chronic pain Confused but I'm pleased to say with my needles input (acupuncture) I've nearly halved the amount I'm taking!

Frank I'm saying nowt either

Go Embarryos! Rooting for you Norf.

rie do you have a revision class booked?

Northey · 18/02/2013 16:26

Yes, don't forget it's an action hero fred, frank. We all have massive devices aimed at your kidneys. Be afraid, motherfucker.

rie, I found some stabbing videos on YouTube were a helpful reminder, when I was sitting and flapping with the needle in my hand.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 16:40

OOooh

I have just had sad news from a friend. Her IVF failed and they can't afford private now. They're only early 30s so I guess there's still hope, but it's hit them very hard :(

Northey · 18/02/2013 17:01

If you have a pre-filled pen, it quickly becomes very easy. The ones where you have to mix up drugs though, they stressed me out till the end.

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 17:03

Die Hard 2 was on the tellybox last night. Unfortunately, after nights of insomnia, I only managed to watch about 10 mins of it before sparking out.!

Rie the poor couple. It must be awful to have all that pressure on the one cycle. They still have loads of time thought (to try naturally and save). Unless there is an absolute mechanical problem (like both tubes gone or something) then it could still happen for them naturally. You hear of so many natural pregnancies after failed IVF.

Northey · 18/02/2013 17:06

We picked up the DVD of Mr&Mrs Smith (which is sort of action-y) in a charity shop the other day, so will be watching that later.

My boobs are immense! It's the progesterone, but my God, they are exploding out of my very biggest bra.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 17:09

I will be having just the one (of IVF that is). Will try my best not to pressure myself and just think "Well come what may..." if it doesn't work.

maamalady · 18/02/2013 17:25

I love Mr and Mrs Smith! It's funny and brilliant, and Brad Pitt's face in the counselling session is superb.

HOTB was talking to MIL the other day - she is all excited for our first IVF appointment, and is impressed with the speed as apparently back in the eighties it took FOUR YEARS between ILs referral and first appointment! Makes me grateful, that our wait is so much shorter.

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 17:33

Mr and Mrs Smith is quite fun.

IOTO Rie. IOTO. One egg, one swimmer, one cycle. But you might not even need to get that far. Your tablets might do the job before you get to IVF.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 17:35
Grin

Ah, I should have been clearer. The pills are just, well, The Pill. I have to do that to shut down a cycle to time the next one. Or something....

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 17:37

So what I'm saying is, The Pill really won't work (or if it does something is Very Wrong)

MrA has a theory (and bear in mind he can be a massive judgemental fascist). He reckons that one of the reasons that IUI and IVF success rates are low is because so many people must do it wrong, because it's so complicated with this drug and that drug and this time and that time. It's easy to fuck it up.

Not saying I agree, but, you know....it's something to cling onto.

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 17:47

Oh sorry, I thought it was Clomid/Letrozole for superovulation/IUI. I completely misunderstood when you were talking about pills. Doh!

Heh@MrA being a massive judgemental fascist. I think KFZK falls into that category too. I keep telling him that not being a gay man, his bitchiness really goes to waste...

The postcode lottery really is sh1t. I think the NICE guidelines still say you should get 3 rounds. Most people I know online and IRL live in areas where you only get one (as was the case for us, and we blew it). I think it was norf saying that the next PCT to her own offers three rounds. It's ridiculous that it is such a lottery when it is something so important.

BTW, if I get past 12 weeks, I will really need to get rid of the drugs (Gonal F pens) that we have had in our fridge since last March. I think each pen is worth £££s. It seems daft just to bin them if someone else is in need and they might make an IVF cycle a bit more affordable. So, in a couple of months if all goes well, I will see if any BESH are interested (for free of course; I'm sure I'd be breaking some regulation by selling them).

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 17:57

One of the nurses at my clinic said that IVF success rates are pretty misleading. They are so low because an awful lot of people that go for IVF have pretty bad problems. If you have healthy eggs and swimmers the chances of success are actually pretty high, it's just that the average gets dragged down IYSWIM.

My boobs feel a bit hurty

Northey · 18/02/2013 18:03

I have a couple of cetrotide spare as well. Though I'm not sure anyone saves anything by getting two for free, if you are buying by batch anyway.

Northey · 18/02/2013 18:04

Do it tomorrow, frank, you know you want to.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 18:10

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

Confused

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 18:18

What is a Gonal F pen pliz? Nothing to do with gonads I take it? Or is it?

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 18:19

It's the stimming drugs, rie. They are super spenny.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 18:19

Not to do with gonads

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 18:22

Sorry

It's FSH, I think.

Northey · 18/02/2013 18:26

Actually, I also have some gonal f left. I thought that as the pens are half-used it would be unhygienic, but as there are hundreds of needles supplied with it, that might not be a prob.

maamalady · 18/02/2013 18:29

Of course it's to do with gonads! FSH stimulates the ovaries, which are gonads!

I think MrA might have a point, you know.

We get three rounds on the NHS - very lucky! No IUI or anything though, so it's a bit of a sea change from "go home, fuck a lot and hope" to "you are dead inside, we will do it in a petri dish for you". I think a couple of cycles of something a bit less hardcore might make it easier to deal with, but by now I don't want to waste the time.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 18/02/2013 18:30

Oh! I though gonads were just bollocks

maamalady · 18/02/2013 18:32

Nope, testes and ovaries are gonadal organs, and are analogous to each other.

FriendofDorothy · 18/02/2013 18:37

Have I missed fresh meat?

Quick intro from me as I lurk in the background. I am 37, The Mister is 32 and we had a first-time Clomid win after nearly 2 years trying. The Little Mister is nearly 10 weeks old and already showing that he is a boob man in the making.
