Hi Smile

Been TTC for around 9 months now, with a MC 6 months ago. I feel I have exhausted many many options and I am so stressed out/desperate with it all, I am thinking about trying something new. I'm currently on CD2.

I have been using the cheap OPKs, and I definitely get a positive test each month, usually a fade in. Last month I got a very almost positive (was the same colour as C line) and thought that was it, but then several days later I got an extremely dark 'positive' so that was a little confusing. I generally get the few days of plentiful CM (sorry TMI) and pains etc, I genuinely did think I 'knew' when I was ovulating, but lack of BFP has me questioning my intuition now. Could these super duper Ov tests tell me something new? Or is it a money marketing ploy?

So anyway, rambling...
Does anyone use these? Recommend them? Positive stories? Am I wasting £30 on 20 tests...do I need the 20 pack as opposed to 7? Do I test once/twice a day? First thing? Afternoon? When to BD in response to positive test? Lots of questions, I'm sorry!

Hopefully someone will come along and reply to me... Thank you.

I use the Clearblue ones and they have always given me a smiley face. I only buy 7 per month as I know I ovulate around cd 14-18 so I normally start using them at cd 12. The best time is to use them at around 2pm in the afternoon, I also buy them off amazon as they are cheaper! After my smiley I normally try to dtd on the day of smiley and then a couple of days after and then every other day after that. I'm sure you ovulate 24-48 hours after the smiley so basically dtd as much as possible around this time!! Good luck!

Hi, I used the cheap ones for a few months and like you I got few up with the doubts. I bought clear blue and got pg on the first month!
I have long cycles and tend to ov around 16/17 so this is what I did:
-cheap opk from cd7 until about 11
-cb from cd12 with fmu but still using cheapies in the afternoon. Cb until day of smiley.
-continue with cheapies for another week after smiley. If I'd had another line I would have gone back to cd but I didn't.
I bought a 20 pack knowing it would last me longer than a month. In terms of DTD we did it 3 times on ov week only, including day before and day of smiley. Nothing after that.
I'm due to have my 12 week scan next week so not out of the woods yet but for obvious reasons I would def recommend cb.
Hope that helps!

I use mine first thing in the morning. I usually get a smiley face on CD 14. So I only test from CD12 onwards.

I have tried testing in afternoon and evening & the results tends to tie in with the first morning urine test. So, I stopped testing the afternoon and evenings. Plus its blooming uncomfortable not going to the loo for the 4hrs prior to testing in the afternoon & evenings!

Good luck!

I used them this month after never getting a + on normal opks. Was completely shocked to get a smiley face on my second day of testing. They're great for giving a clear answer. The only drawback for me was not being able to see the lines darkening as I got closer to ov.

I asked almost this exact question on here and was told that as all these tests measure the same hormone, if you're getting a clear result on the cheapies the expensive ones won't give you any extra info... I know what it is like to question everything when you don't get a bfp after doing "everything right" but some of us are just unlucky, even if everything is working perfectly. I am almost tempted to try CB myself but i already get posutives on cheap opks so my scientist background is resisting!!

NewYearNewBoo · 16/01/2013 16:45

I used a mix of both, I used the cheap ones on the run up to ov then only needed to use one or two cb's to check the result and get the :)

I was avoiding all ov kits! Until started getting frustrated as just wasn't getting pregnant!
Used boots but the lines was confusings so I decided to combine as I get oving pains so can feel when it's time( this happened after my 2 nd loss)
I loved confirming my body telling me I was oving with a smiling face and I used this 2 months I'm now currently 31 weeks pregnant after trying for nearly a year! Hope it works for you and def order from amazon cheaper!

Thank you for all the replies, it is so reassuring to speak to other people in the same situation/trying the same things.

I caved last night and bought a pack of 20. So will see how I get on. Still got a fair few cheap opks left so will perhaps do a mix.

Update and query...

I have been using a mix of cheapies (cd8-11) and clearblue digital (12-15) I am on day 15 today, got my first smiley this morning. We dtd last night...should we do it again tonight and tomorrow night for the best chance do you think?

Also my cheapy opks don't seem to be matching up to the smiley! I wouldn't say I have had a clear positive on the cheap one yet, which is strange as I normally do...hoping it doesn't happen late and contradict the clearblue which will be very confusing. Anybody have any experience of this?

Hiya OP
Just beware of false smileys- I have had a couple. As they were unexpected I inspected the strip and saw that an excess of wee (sorry!) had flooded the test strip pane, so the reader wasn't reading it correctly. Usually you can see two very strong lines on removal.

OveranxiousUnderated · 28/01/2013 21:09

Hi MrsHY1 - Thanks for the reply.

My 'smiley test' this morning did have two equally strong lines, where as the past few days the test line has been fainter. I just did another test and no smiley now, just a blank face and the lines are similar but test line has def faded. Thinking about it far too much, opk's are addictive and I'm not sure how much good they do sometimes!
