Interesting observation about menstrual cycle and insomnia

1 - 11: Sleep like a log. Caffeine, excessive use of laptop, nothing can disrupt it.
12 - 14: Really disrupted sleep / insomnia.
15: Ovulation
16 - 23: Need to monitor this time of the month more closely.
23 - 26: More insomnia.
27: period, back to sleeping like a log. Just like that!

I have noticed on Google that there is not much research on this though a little on insomnia and the menstrual cycle and quite a few people reporting problems prior to ovulation and menstruation. Anyone else?

Yes!!
I wasn't sure if it was stress about timing dtd around ovulation and then stressing about possible bfp or start of menstruation at the end of the cycle, but I've definitely noticed a similar pattern.

Yeah, it's weird. The night my period comes on, I am really tired and out like a light. Yet last night I couldn't sleep, despite sleeping badly the previous night. I am CD on 13 at the moment. I looked at my charts for last month and lo and behold I slept badly before ovulation last month!

Yes! Now you mention it I agree. I slept really badly over Christmas as my ov was on Xmas day. Weird how I never noticed before.

I've been off the pill for about eight months but have only started charting. That's when i began to notice.

I always sleep badly just before my period, I think it's because of the rise in body temp at that time, as I always feel hot in bed (get me!)

Well, I think I ov-ed overnight. Got to sleep OK but got woken up and couldn't fall asleep again easily.

old thread but…
wondered if anyone else notices a pattern like this? Mine is very similar to the OP’s (10 years ago!)
I’m 37 and no history of early menopause in my family as far as I know. Wonder if it’s a symptom. Think o day was yesterday and my sleep was so disrupted over the past few nights… 💤

I found this thread on a Google search so sorry for resurrecting a zombie, although I see a PP has too @CurlyWurly1991!

Ive noticed very recently after my sleep took a big turn for the worse, that I have terrible insomnia during the luteal phase. Last month it was pretty much the whole phase, on and off, which is depressing given it’s 2 weeks. Slept extremely well for 2 weeks then up until ovulation, and then Sunday - CD16 - BAM, middle of the night wakings and taking hours to go back to sleep. Currently on night 3 and praying it doesn’t last the whole two weeks! I’d thought lifestyle changes had gotten rid of it, upping my running mileage hugely, enough movement, supplements. But now I’m worried this is me for the next however many years. I’m 36, no peri menopause in sight otherwise, regular cycles of 24-28 days.
