Slightly clueless on the practicalities... So we do the deed, then what?

We are TTC #1. I know all about the science and I have an app so I know when I am ovulating etc.

But when we have done the deed, then what? I have been sort of lying there for a little while, rather than leaping up to clean up, IYSWIM. Give DH's swimmers less of an uphill struggle and all that.

Anything else? Last month was our first cycle of actually trying, but we were away so we didn't really do it very much.

Any tips?

Sex works for most people. There is really no need to get more technical than that until you have been trying for a while!

Agree with Euro, don't get too involved until you've been trying for a good 6 months or so - that way madness lies!

There is nothing concrete you can do to guarantee pregnancy, if it was that easy we'd all get pregnant first go! Just aim to have sex 2-3 times a week throughout your cycle and hopefully that will be sufficient.

Don't set too much store by your app. I relied on mine but when I charted and monitored my fertile signs I realised I ovulated quite early on in my cycle. Try to dtd three times a week, every week to maximise your chances.
Don't worry too much about the swimmers - the good ones get propelled up. The duffers are the ones that fall out.
If you're using lubricant, mark sure it's a sperm friendly one like pre-seed or conceive plus.
My top tip would be to remember, statistics suggest 80% of couples conceive within one year, 90% within 18 months. I wouldn't bother with OPKs or charting initially. As euro and frank. say, generally, having sex is enough! :)

Thanks all. The app seems to be pretty good - spot on for period due dates and I can generally tell tht it's correct about ovulation because I want to jump DH's bones

We'd better get on with it then!
