Hello,

Dh and I have been trying for over 2 years and had one failed ivf (Icsi) attempt at the Argc last spring. We are going to go again in the new year.

I wondered if anyone else was planning to do the same? And whether anyone fancied joining me in 'princessing' (stolen from style & beauty :) ) for ivf?

I'm not sure what this means in terms of what I'll do, really hoping for some help in researching how to get the best eggs ever, and perhaps how to improve dh's little swimmers....

Anyone up for being a good egg buddy?

And yes it is really long to wait! Thankfully will be in New York from 28th till 4th so that will help...I hope!

Northey · 19/02/2013 16:46

Six weeks + one day, hont. V envious of New York. That's a lovely distraction.

HontyTont · 19/02/2013 17:13

Thanks north
How are you feeling?

Dildals · 19/02/2013 17:23

euro My scan is next week Thursday too! I will be 7 weeks and 3 days at that point (there abouts)

hont I am good thanks, good news on the 2 transferees, not much to report, just sitting it out till next week Thursday. Then (hopefully) the next wait starts till 12w scan. And so we continue. Apart from sore boobs and getting up for early morning wees still no other symptoms to report. But I think fairy and euro are the same so am trying to get not too worried. How is the bloat? Will you be able to fit in to something suitable for the posh b'day dinner? ;-)

northey that is well rude from that nurse!

EuroShagmore · 19/02/2013 17:24

6 weeks, 1 day :) Check me out - I've got the lingo already. Wink

EuroShagmore · 19/02/2013 17:25

Welcome Mewling (great name, btw). It is quite a rollercoaster, but threads like this are a great support.

honty the NY trip will be fab and a great distraction!

Dildals · 19/02/2013 17:46

Agree - I wish I'd joined this thread a lot sooner so I knew about eating a high protein diet while stimming (I did read that somewhere here didn't I?) and the drinking of lots of water during bloat period (nurse only told me that when I was waddling around pregnant with ovary, 3 days away from EC ... ). Also I would have known about 'gushington central' courtesy of the cetritide injections - DH still talks about it. ;-).

Sharonbenn · 19/02/2013 17:54

Well Honty 2 out of 2 is great. And a trip to new York to look forward to.

Welcome Mewling. We are also self funded ICSI. Where are you going?

Have a good evening everyone.

Sx

fairypangolin · 19/02/2013 19:09

Hi all - congrats on your ECs, northey and hont. I hope you manage to relax and feel happy that you made it this far, I did for at least 24 hours before I started obsessing about whether it worked or not. I wish I could have gone to New York!

northey i had a nurse say something similar to me straight after ET. Thanks! And the nurse who told me the pregnancy test was positive did not even crack a smile! I actually had quite a moment of cognitive dissonance because what she was saying (joyous and positive) did not match up with her demeanour (solemn and reserved). I kept thinking I had misunderstood her. Maybe when you deal with these things every day over and over again you get detached but still- you think you'd be a bit chuffed to tell an IVF patient they were pregnant!

mewlingquim I have to ask how on earth you came up with that name? Welcome to the Emotional Rollercoaster! Perhaps we could set up a ride at Alton Towers?

delilah glad to hear your symptoms have not gone away entirely. I have been feeling a bit queasy since Saturday, never very acute but sort of an all day miasma. It's alleviated by stuffing down toast, pasta, bagels - to think I was for many months on a low carb diet...

There was a general discussion a while back about the vastly different advice different clinics give. I think it's because there really isn't much definitive evidence as to what does and does not matter when it comes to IVF (apart from the procedure itself). I think they have problems doing large scale double blind studies (since who would sign up for one?) and I read somewhere that the Bush administration outlawed experiments using human embryos so IVF research in the US has been dead for a decade. So I guess the clinics just go on whatever studies they find and some are more conservative and some are more interventionist. It is not very reassuring if you are trying your best to improve your chances though.

Bit of a long post, got to go and consume some more starch.

dildals I should be ok to get into a posh frock for the dinner! I'm not sure now if its bloating or I've put on weight due to the amount of choc spread i have consumed straight from the jar! Blush

HontyTont · 19/02/2013 22:29

Good luck QT and Mewling

Sharonbenn · 20/02/2013 07:51

Hello QT and Mewling. Funnily enough we are thinking of moving to Bristol when the little one comes along. Im sick of london and I'm from that way originally. We are both artists and Brissol is great for arty farty types Smile

Did anyone hear the top story on the radio this morning? Ivf funding raised to age 42! Aagghhhh on the day that I have to pay 3900 of my Great British pounds for the pleasure.

The drugs are safely stored. It all looks very daunting. I took pictures of all the boxes lined up in my fridge.

Good luck for those with scans today.

Sx

ScarlettInSpace · 20/02/2013 09:30

Hiya everyone, sorry I'm so hit and miss but we are having a broadband nightmare and havent had wifi for the 3 weeks since we switched to EE Angry

Sorry not to name check everyone but big hugs to caip and fx for delilah, euro I don't think I've said congrats yet! Oh and fab news for honty and northey good luck!

Re drugs storage, the only thing I had to put in the fridge was the trigger shot, I was on menopur & buserelin last time, no-one mentioned keeping any of it in the fridge? Perhaps thats why it didn't work still in denial about useless ovaries

I'm on countdown now, day 6 of my Pre-IVF Princess Detox and I've lost 5lbs and 1cm all over Grin with 4 days to go, better than the weight loss is that I really feel like I'm putting lots of goodness into my body so I'm prepped and ready to go next week. Snook a cheeky HPT in this morning and BFN [why do I bother] so am still expecting CD1 to be Sunday or Monday, so will start jabbing again on short protocol on Tuesday I imagine.

I've had a great chat with my boss last week and have a mental diary this week & next to see all my customers and clear down my to-do list so I can work from home the following 2 weeks when I'll be in and out for scans every other day, and he is happy with my plans for short notice holiday for EC & ET... not sure what else I can be doing? channels inner control freak

fairypangolin · 20/02/2013 09:59

mewling Grin your explanation - glad it wasn't your nickname at school!

I think the IVF funding story, although rather gutting if you've just paid, is good news in that it means they don't think age has as much detrimental impact as they previously did. So for us ovarian pensioners that's great!

EuroShagmore · 20/02/2013 10:06

Morning ladies.

Well done on the fab weightloss Scarlett. The detox seems to have worked.

sharon I saw that story on the BBC, although they did mention that with the IVF funding situation as it is, it is pretty meaningless. After all, the NICE guidelines say you should get 3 rounds and most areas offer one or none at all.

Sharonbenn · 20/02/2013 10:07

I agree Fairy. Being 42 it gives me hope. Also I'm glad for all those that it will help who wouldn't have the opportunity otherwise. Although we have sacrificed and saved alot for a long time to be able to afford this cycle I still consider myself lucky. I know that there are many who don't have that luxury.

I have gonal f and ovitrelle in the fridge and nafarelin sprays and the pessaries on the dining room table at the moment.

Welcome back Scarlett good luck with this cycle.

I'm posting at work. Bored out of my tiny mind and looking for distraction!

Northey · 20/02/2013 10:12

sharon, it will probably take a year to filter through the individual PCT funding policy review cycles, so it's not like by waiting an extra fortnight you could have had it for free

Clinic called to say none of my remaining embryos were suitable for freezing. One had died, one was degenerating, and four were at stage 4CC (with 4BB being Oxford's minimum standard for freezing). I had spent some time yesterday reading about people's experiences with other clinics' criteria, including stories of women who argued for freezing lower quality embryos against the clinic's advice, and ended up with babies. All empowered by mental American sites (full of babydust and women doing magic tummy rubs Confused), I persuaded the clinic to give the four 4CCs a shot, so they are being frozen now! I know it's a long shot, but if this one doesn't implant, then I'd like at least to try with frozen ones before going through a whole stimming/EC/fertilisation cycle again. In a light-hearted "shove them in and see what happens" sort of way. The equivalent of a bottle of wine and a shag for those who get to do it that way!

Sharonbenn · 20/02/2013 10:37

Nice one Northey.

Dildals · 20/02/2013 11:29

The article I read also said that NHS has such long waiting lists for IVF as it stands - but I could start right away at ours. I was shocked, went a bit too fast even! Where are those waiting lists!?

Sharonbenn · 20/02/2013 11:31

Mid morning snack. Everyone is tucking into coffee and bourbons while I enjoy my caffeine free nettle tea and high protein nuts and seeds!

EuroShagmore · 20/02/2013 11:33

Didals I was the same - the NHS was actually too quick for me. We had to put it off for 3 months because I just wasn't reasy.

Norf I looked out for your foot in stirrups on the news, but I think they must have cut that bit. ;) I definitely think it is worth giving the freezing a go. After all, they survived in the harsh lab environment for this long - they must be fairly hardy little buggers.
