Is this cramping ovulation happening? Can someone explain when I'm dpo?

Got a pos on opk yesterday cd21, dtd yesterday. This afternoon between 1pm-5pm I had prominent pain from my right ovary, dull to reasonably painful cramping etc. was that the egg actually being released? Or did I ov when I got the pos on opk?

The cramping etc has now gone, but we dtd tonight just in case.

How long does the egg last? Shall we dtd again tomorrow or have we done all we can baby making wise for this month?

When am I 1dpo?

Thank you.

I think yes, some of my friends reported the same thing - distinguishable cramps or pain on one side as egg is released from ovary and descending into the fallopian tube.
the ripe egg can survive in the fallopian tube for up to 3 days, so my advice is full steam ahead! Smile
you should definitely try again tomorrow night and Friday night as well - and I'd probably go for it on Saturday as well just to make sure!

and one interesting thing:

  • if the sperm is waiting for the egg (ie sex before ov) the quicker but weaker "boy "sperm (carrying the Y chromosome) will die off and the more resilient "girl" sperm (X chromosome carrier) will fertilize the egg and you are more likely to have a girl
- if the egg is released before the sperm gets there (so ov first then sex) then the faster "boy gets to the already waiting, ripe egg first, so you are more likely to have a boy! of course there's no guarantee either way, but that's the technical side of it.

good luck!
