How soon after MC do you ovulate again?

Not been around here for a while, looking forward to some chat.
But my question is as above. I suffered a MC at 10 weeks and havent got back into a cycle. So where am I? Which comes first, ovulation or a period?
Anyone?

So very sorry to hear of your miscarriage weevil - life can be shite at times .

In my case (miscarried at 7 weeks) I'm pretty certain I ovulated before I had my first post-miscarriage period. At my final scan to check that I had completely miscarried the sonographer estimated that I was on about day 10 of my cycle and sort of hinted that we could ttc in the next few days, if we wanted to.

We didn't try that cycle as I was all over the place emotionally, but the date my period arrived etc all went on to match what the sonographer had said (and ovulation taking place around day 12/13).

I think everybody's body is different and it can take different amounts of time to fall back into sync. My miscarriage was very early. Did you get any guidance from your doctor or EPU?

Hi, I don't have any answers I'm afraid, but I'm in a similar situation- mc 2 weeks ago at 7.5 weeks and wondering the same as you. My scan is next Monday, but I don't have high hopes of a return to normal cycle- it wasn't normal before I fell pregnant. Hope things get back on track for you soon

It happened around the 1st Nov and the days thereafter Bridget, we had our first ttc (sorry, but i forget MN terminology, oh yes dtd?) so kinda daydreaming and wondering, sat was 24th. We'll see....

weevils it is not unheard of for women to fall pregnant post-mc without ever having had a period in between, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I found the miscarriage/pregnancy section of mumsnet really helpful back in April. Didn't post, but could empathise with lots on the threads.

I MC at 7 weeks and I seem to have OV'd pretty much as normal, as we got some OPK's that month so we would know when I started again IYKWIM. Months since its been on exactly the same day.

What I found thou Bridget was the doctors 7 weeks was actually 6 as I OV on day 21 not 14. So in our cases it might have been because it was a techically a CP

No it was not a chemical pregnancy. I ovulated mid-cycle when I conceived (I can be sure of this because we only had sex once that month) so I was definitely 7 weeks.

My first scan when I started to miscarry showed a gestational sac and the beginnings of my baby.The EPU and my GP certainly treated it as a miscarriage and the process I went through was definitely more than a heavy period.

To be honest the term chemical pregnancy seems to be used to mean different things by different people. What I experienced was not akin to getting an early BFP and my period arriving a few days later.

Anyway, irrespective of how others may choose to label it, I lost a much wanted baby in April and one I remember every day.

bridget didn't mean to offend, I feel the same way about my lost one. I meant in terms that the hcg levels might return quickly. I didn't even get a scan to check at 7+4 as my levels had dropped so much they told me to just go home and wait it out. I absolutely abhor that term myself but its what the doctor used for me when I questioned it.

Thank you for your post Mrs Twinks, I really appreciate it. You have nothing to apologise for. I am just hyper-sensitive right now as - had things worked out differently - I would be very, very pregnant or even holding a newborn now.

I am sorry for your loss too and, having heard your experience, feel very fortunate I was scanned and allowed a photograph. My sonographer was fantastic and I will always remember her kindness and professionalism.

The term "chemical pregnancy" just seems to reduce women's very real losses to some sort of hormonal imbalance.

Weevils - I'm really sorry about your mc,I know how heartbreaking it is. I had a mmc nearly 4 years ago now, we found out at nearly 13 Weeks when I started bleeding a couple of days before our 12 week scan, the baby had died at 8 Weeks,3 days. I had an erpc followed by considerable bleeding then I don't know if I ovulated but had a period about a month later then we conceived our daughter on the next cycle (she is nearly 3 now).

I had another mc last month at 5 Weeks (so I guess doctors would call it a cp) as we are now ttc# 2 & I think I ov'd shortly afterwards so I've been googling it lots & it looks like it is def possible to ov without having a period first. I guess everyone is different on how soon that happens after mc.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage - it took me about 25 days to ovulate after my mmc last month - but that was after erpc rather than natural mc - don't know if that makes a difference

ERPC - Evacuation of Retained Products of Conception, so surgery to mange a miscarriage.
In answer to your first question it would be usual to ovulate before having a period so very possible to get pregnant again before a period turning up. The period is the last bit of your cycle were your body is preparing your womb for fertilization again. I think you can have ovulation without releasing an egg but this is quite rare. How long has it been since your miscarriage and have you been ttc?

Weevils I miscarried at eleven weeks on 2 December last year. It was a missed miscarriage so the baby actually died three weeks earlier. I had my first period at the start of January (can't remember the exact date) and the next on 2 February and I definitely ovulated after that one as I was lucky enough to conceive again. HTH.

ERPC stands for "evacuation of retained products of conception" (a surgical procedure carried out under general anaesthetic where the cervix is dilated and tissue removed with a small suction device).

The medical profession isn't known for sensitive terminology.

The MC was 1st Nov and the days thereafter. We dtd on sat 24th. Cautiously.

Sorry - it's crap. I had ERPC on 19 March (the day AFTER Mother's Day - nice), bled on and off until 9 April and ovulated at the end of April with proper AF in May. HTH.

AF today. So 4 weeks after first bleed of MC. I guess i ovulated as normal, coz was pretty horny and chirpy a couple of weeks ago. Onwards........
