day 21 tests results.help!

Well after bring told that lh levels were low but everything else was normal by a male go today I was told that my progesterone level was 16. The doc didn't seem concerned although she said over twenty or thirty was ideal. My period came exactly 7 days after the blood test so i'm not sure if, add she suggested, my levels could be low as a result of having the test a few days later than ideal...anyone got any experience? Is this likely to be a blip, will it man I can't get pregnant or i'm not ovulating? Just a bit worried now...

A level of 16 would indicate that ovulation did not occur; they like to see a level of 30 or above.

I'd put money on it as well that your LH and FSH levels were not compared against each other on the day 2 test; these can appear okay if only looked at separately (but these have to be compared).

It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating; if your periods are and have been irregular in nature then this is more likely to be happening.

Do not let these people further mess around with you in ignorance as subfertility problems are completely outside their remit.

You need a referral to a gynae at a subfertility unit and from that a diagnosis.

Oh...she said that under ten meant no ov but 16 wouldn't really. I've looked online and its not looking like a healthy number really ;) would you think that next time could be much higher? Or is that really low and not likely to bounce up? Yikes i'm feeling so blue really...

The progesterone level comes from the corpus luteum (the bit around the egg that is left after ovulation bursts it out). So it seems to be generally accepted that under about 30, 7 days after ov, is an indicator that there has not been ovulation. I'd definitely suggest pushing for further investigation.

I've to get another set done they said before they'd do anything..how string can you be with insisting they refer you of you know what I mean? They offered a sa for dh and said if we hasn't had any luck by Feb they'd refer then...

It depends on age. Under 35 the guidelines are to start investigations after a year. Over 35, it should be 6 months.

At least they have started tested both of you.

I didn't need to be pushy - my GP readily referred me. But I know some people have to be. If you are past the guideline time ttc for your age, then I would push (if you want to - I've hated my year of being prodded and poked and were I a bit younger I would have been happy to leave the investigations for a while as they add a lot of stress to the process).

Well i'm 33 and it'll be a year in March so its a bit early to push but so say they have offered to keep going with blood tests etc...raised sa with dh tonight and he said ok which is good as I thought he wouldn't be keen...tbh i'm the one who pushed to ttc etc he's not broody! But I think he can see how upset I am and its bringing him around top being more pro active!
