We only dtd once so I don't see how this can be?

Ha I sound like a teenager!
I had a bad day at work yesterday so bought a test (as you do...) and did it at work. In my haste I cocked it up and there was a faint +ve but I disregarded it. I did the other test today PROPERLY and it's still there, a medium-faint line.

I'm really confused as we only had sex once this month and that was straight after my last period so I'd think it is highly unlikely?

It's a Boots cheapo own brand test, are they a bit unreliable??

AF is due yesterday or today, not sure as I'm not good at logging it and we were sort of umming and ahhing about ttc.

My only done it once, just after period is now 6 and running about upstairs. It definitely does happen. It only takes one wee sperm and all that.

I should add part of my reason for doing the test was that I've felt different in a way I can't explain and I have been throwing up the last couple of days but put that down to anxiety at work as that makes me sick. So I'm sort of in the 'I'm probably not' camp but omg it would be great if I was!

It only takes once, and it may be that you ovulated early this month. Bear in mind also that sperm can stay around/alive inside you for up to 7 days.

I think its impossible to get a false posititive as the test needs the pregnancy hormone to register.....so sounds like you are pregnant! If your cycle is quite a short one then you'd ovulate earlier than day 14 so quite possible.

Get a more 'expensive' branded test and try again, they are better and more sensitive to the hormones in your pee. I did something similar once and got a faint line like you describe. I did a branded test next day and it was positive. Bold blue line positive.

Hmm thanks, I'm not getting my knitting needles out just yet, I'm still convinced the test is wrong. But tbh DD (now 1yo, the reason why we never have sex lol) was conceived after one 'go', my DH was most disappointed

Dr told me when I was in a similar position, (am currently 17+ weeks with my only once on totally the wrong day) that you can get a false negative but very rarely a false positive.

Was it the blue dye twin pack with the + test result? What did the line look like? I've had two false positives on those tests. The I of the + was over to the left and fainter compared to the control line. I would try a different brand to be sure not to be too cynical but experience has me wary of these tests

It's impossible (or as close as can be) to get a false positive, as long as its not an evaporation line (I.e if you've read it too long after the makers say to read it) then you are pg!

It's so funny you saying about sounding like a teenager...we tried for dc1 fir 9 months before getting pg and I felt cheated, surely having unprotected sex was all it took? That's what my mum was always telling me as a teen!

If you are pregnant I bet it's a girl! My DD was conceived that early on in my cycle and so was my sisters!

Well I did the clear blue test which tells you how far along you are, and I guess 3 tests plus mumsnet wisdom can't be wrong

I mean I was charting and all sorts, but somehow, according to both scans (inc dating), and growth measurements and so on, I actually conceived on the second day of my period, when I hadn't had sex for about 8-10 days and didn't ovulate for another 10 days after...

who knew. They were insistent - they couldn't even do the NT thing as the baby was far too big.
