HSG experiences...

Hi, I have a hsg booked and wondered if anyone could share their experiences with me as il pretty terrified.

I have it on cd 16 which I know isn't ideal but I didn't ovulate until cd 19 last month so will I still be in with a chance this months?

Hiya, I've had four HSGs in total, the first one was quiet uncomfortable, but the other three no worse than a dull period pain. I would recommend taking some ibuprofen about 20 mins before the procedure. I had my last HSG done on cd11 and I conceived our DD on CD14 so best of luck for this cycle for you.

I have had 2, I didn't find them too bad. The staff are so professional I didn't feel at all self conscious. The procedure itself was not too bad I just had a little cramping after.

Mine was just like a smear with a bigger audience (3 people in the room). I felt the speculum go in (as with a smear) and was then aware of a bit of non-painful fiddling and then it was all over. No spotting, no pain at all. I had heard horror stories about pain (both on the internet and from a friend who went through it just before me) but it was absolutely fine. I did take a couple of nurofen before I went though.

I'd really warn you off trying at all before the HSG. If there is an embryo there, the HSG could wash it into the tube/abdominal cavity and lead to an ectopic. I had mine on day 10 and ov around 14, so we just held off until afterwards and then went for it.

The doctor and the two nurses were really friendly and we chatted the whole time which really helped take my mind off it.
I was uncomfortable, but not too painful, and the pain ended as soon as the procedure ended.
I was able to see the screen that the doctor was looking at and she explained to me what she could see.
There was a nurse outside afterwards to make you a cup of tea if you need one.

I had to beg to get mine done after CD12, I didn't ovulate until day 20 anyway. I promised to abstain after my period until the HSG so they let me.

One interesting thing has been that my two cycles since have been much shorter than before.

Oh, also worth being aware that you have to get completely undressed and put on a hospital gown.

Had mine last week was ok, nurses were lovely which really helped.
My nurse had difficulty opening cervix (tmi sorry) and after a bit of fiddling had to get the consultant down, he sorted it swiftly then talked me through the photos. Uncomfortable yes, painful, not really.
However I was crampy that evening and having abstained for a fortnight, did not fancy sex that evening. DTD the following day though.
Remember that a lot of people conceive soon after, a good "flush out" helps!
