Molar Pregnancy - any experience?

Hi Girls,
I had a D&C op last week at about 7 weeks and i got the results back today to say it was a molar pregnancy. the doc is a close family friend and wanted my mum to tell me before the hospital called me to tell me as she knew i was still a bit emotional and delicate after the MC - even more so now as i will not be allowed to TTC for a year minimum :( I'm pretty frightened about it all after looking online and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I am expecting the hospital to call any day regarding it and i'm sure i'll be a bit flustered / teary when they call so i was wondering if there are any questions you think i should ask them?

Hi Janie, I'm sorry to hear about your MC and the results. How are you feeling now?
I don't have any experience of molar pregnancy but perhaps make a list of questions in advance with your DP or mum, that you can add to as you think of it.

thank you for your message. still feeling pretty rubbish. been away with DH for a nice hotel break but feeling terrible now that we're back in the real world :o( just hoping this year goes quickly.

Really sorry to hear of your loss and the additional complication.. as if a loss isn't bad enough you get even worse luck. Much sympathy.

The Miscarriage Association might be able to help you with questions and support. Somebody I know online elsewhere had a molar last year and found a molar pregnancy support forum somewhere, so they're out there.

thanks for your message, i've been glued to the internet for a couple of days and found some really helpful forums etc just a big punch in the face really but nothing can be done to heal it except time so i am just going to have to accept that. just a bit miserable thought :(

I've never posted before but thought it was the right thing to do given that molar is quite rare.

Mine was diagnosed in May after I made it to my dating scan without any excitement. The sonographer was good and told us of her suspicions straight away. I was told more or less straight away that my regional centre wouldn't ask to see me in person so requested an appointment with my consultant (I have known him years due to being a gynae disaster!)

Turns out all I learnt online paid off as he didn't know a great amount! My mole was partial and my levels dropped within the magical fifty something days and so I am monitored for six months and have been encouraged to stop ttc during this time. I send a urine sample fortnightly and have also provided one blood sample.

I haven't been to my regional centre but have phoned them as and when I've wanted to. They've always been incredibly helpful and supportive.

I'm almost finished with the monitoring. I already have one ds. Number two would be a bonus.

i appreciate sharing your experience. and good to hear that your levels dropped so quickly! that must have been a relief! i have been glued to the internet since finding out and was contacted today by my local hospital to confirm it was a partial and that Charing Cross would be in touch asap. dreading it but wishing time will pass quickly and have everything crossed that my levels will decrease quickly. there doesn't seem to be anything that helps the levels decrease other than time which is annoying as it's so out of my hands. i desperately want to ttc again, we had already decided to wait until we got married (we married in april) so another wait is just so frustrating...but has to be.

My pleasure. I have secretly been ttc for the last couple of months in a low key way as my levels were good.

I struggled to get my head around everything initially, especially with the chemo threat hanging in the background.

Keep positive. It'll happen when it's right - I'm a great believer in that sort of thing!

Oh good luck!! I hope it happens for you soon. I'm also a pretty positive person and i now know that things will work put in the end if they're supposed to. I seem to know quite a lot about it now, I think the dr was quite shocked that I knew what he was talking about. There was an awful article that someone linked up to a forum on molarpregnancy.co.uk, it was from the daily mail on 17th oct. honestly I would have been a wreck if I had read it before knowing the facts. Obviously I feel sorry for the couple in the article (she got confirmed molar on her wedding day) but it was just written in such a fear factor way and the word cancer was in nearly every other sentence. Thank goodness for websites that tell it like it is, and for people like you who are willing to share their fears and hopes. Xx
