I can't understand how being housebound is stopping you buying sticks Bad, that is what Amazon is for surely!

Purplemonster · 31/10/2012 23:32

Bleedin ell, I turn my back for five minutes and come back to a gazillion pages of new posts to catch up on. Did I miss anything good? Grin

Purplemonster · 31/10/2012 23:41

So I went to the doctor and he told me to make a midwife appointment and that was it so it still feels pretty unreal and the first free appointment with the midwife isn't until the end of November. I still don't

Purplemonster · 31/10/2012 23:42

Stupid laptop!

Badleg · 01/11/2012 07:22

Amazon..... Really! Right off to look right now and spend some money!!

Bunnygirlie · 01/11/2012 08:30

Welcome back purple! Think you've missed a few BFPs, a few newbies and thes rest of us still trying or depressed :-s

Purple I don't think Midwives are interested in us pregnant ladies until we're about 8 weeks. I've got my booking appointment in 2 weeks when I will be 7+6.

janey1234 · 01/11/2012 10:00

Ha last time my midwives weren't interested at all - my booking in appointment was going to be after my scan, at 13 weeks!

I think I might be having a symptom - ridiculous tiredness. Went out for dinner in soho last night and DP paid for us to get a cab home, and I was soooo tired and saying I literally could not wait to get into bed. Then I looked at the clock and it was 9.19pm. Ridiculous. Got home, went to bed, was apparently talking in my sleep by 10pm (about there being horses in the bedroom?!). This is from the girl who this time last year used to be out drinking until 3am at least once a week....

The waking up several times a night thing isn't helping, so to be fair I'm not sure if it's a symptom or the result of me not having had a decent night's sleep for a week.

HazleNutt · 01/11/2012 10:20

Same here Janey, I've been going to bed at 9 for the whole week and my normal bed time is midnight. Yesterday tried to be sociable and at least watch some CSI with DH, fell asleep on the sofa. Luckily I'm fine during the day, it's just the evenings that are getting shorter and shorter.

janey1234 · 01/11/2012 11:26

You're a few weeks ahead of me though, I think I'm just being a wuss. Really don't remember this from the first 12 weeks last time. Hoping that's a good sign.

Also OK in the day which is good as work is a nightmare at the moment - perhaps also partly explains why I'm so tired...

captainmoll · 01/11/2012 12:09

Right, so I'm out for the count on this round. Evil red tide of doom turned up today. I am going to be going the whole hog this cycle. I don't care how knackered DH is. I'm getting OPKs, special lube, and I'll be shaking him awake and pouncing as soon as the smiley face appears! I cannot face the thought of dandling one more friend's baby without knowing I have one on the way too. (7! 7 in the last 2 months!! I hang out with a fertile bunch..).
Any recommendations of good OPKs?

Aquarius1 · 01/11/2012 12:36

Hi all thanks for the sound advice last night which I dutifully followed Blush had another Smile on the clearblue test today and by a stroke of luck dh now doesn't have to go away til tomorrow Smile he does say he now feels like a sperm bank but isn't protesting too much!
captainmoll I recommend the clearblue digital tests if you can stomach the cost- worked for me even in the evening

janey1234 · 01/11/2012 12:37

I'm sorry Sad. It's such a depressing feeling

I used the clearblue one, and had enough sticks in one pack for two months (waited a couple of days after end of AF before testing).
not cheap at £26 from amazon here, but cheaper than £39.99 in boots!
It was useful to know when to expect the smiley face - so last month (ie the month it worked) we 'got to it' before and upon seeing that reassuring smile...

janey1234 · 01/11/2012 12:39

Good work aquarius - combined with more action tonight, and maybe even tomorrow, you never know, this might be your month. Then the dreaded 2ww...

(which turned out to be a 10-11 day wait for me thanks to first response!)

Aquarius1 · 01/11/2012 12:40

Ps commiserations moll

captainmoll · 01/11/2012 12:42

thanks guys - I've decided to go with a cheapy pack from amazon this time round, and went for some conceive plus as well - will splash out next month on the clear blue if this cycle brings no joy. It's my birthday over the next cycle so I am hoping the universe gives me a nice present Wink

HazleNutt · 01/11/2012 13:07

captain sorry and better luck next month - I actually got my BFP 3 days after my birthday.

Pipbin · 01/11/2012 13:46

Sorry to hear that Captain.

I have used the cheap Amazon ones for a while. I also have a Clear Blue Monitor. I found that the Amazon cheap ones took a while to get used to but I now trust them over anything else.
What I suggest you do is start by testing every wee around the time when you think you might be OVing. That way you will get to know which time is right for you. For example, the received wisdom is that you should test mid afternoon. I did for ages and missed it every time, eventually I found it needed to be the second wee of the day.

Quodlibet · 01/11/2012 14:16

I used the amazon cheapy sticks too - like Pip said, you get enough to test a lot until you identify when your surge is likely to be.

Badleg · 01/11/2012 14:33

I got another positive on the ovulation stick this morning. Hopefully I can pursuade DH to get back on it tonight! We have his kids tomorrow for the weekend so tonight may be the last night this month.

How much sex ideally should you actually be doing to conceive? This month I think we have been averaging every other night.

Sorry to hear your news captain.

captainmoll · 01/11/2012 15:54

So I am right in thinking from your advice, pip and quod, that the surge is very short lived? It only lasts a couple of hours? My, but it's complicated!
Good luck tonight badleg Grin - there's a little discussion a page or tow back about how much sex is good. My doc told me every other day but apparently her info is a bit outdated - correct me if I'm wrong ladies, but I think we ascertained that as much as poss is best? I guess it depends how it works for you. My DH is just too exhausted to manage every other night, so this month I'm going with being more exact about OV and going for it as much as poss for the 3-day window around OV. Not that DH knows this yet..

Quodlibet · 01/11/2012 16:41

Captain, with the cheap OV sticks I had a pattern of the second line getting visible and then stronger as OV approached, and then fainter again, over about 3 days. So for me certainly it wasn't a tiny window.

With the cheap sticks it's not an all or nothing - although it only 'counts' as positive if the second line is as dark as the control, in reality you can see the lines fading in so you get plenty of warning.

It might not work the same for everyone as some people prob have more/less hormone, but that's how it worked for me.

I can try to upload a photo of my sticks to my profile...(yes I kept them Blush )

With the dtd question we took a similar approach to the one you suggested (I would let DP know it was Red Alert Sexy Time when ewcm and OPKs showed OV was approaching, and we'd get as much in as we could in that window!!

winkle2 · 01/11/2012 16:56

captain ? sorry she got you and good luck for next month. I really like the Clearblue digitals ? no mistaking that smiley face! Good tip pip about using them at every wee.

badleg ? I think the general consensus is every 2-3 days that way you're always covered. I'm going for as much as I can this month ? have tried every other method!

can I ask a question about conceive plus? do you need it if you don't need to use lube normally? or does it have something in it that makes the sperm last longer / swim faster, etc?

captainmoll · 01/11/2012 17:05

Thanks quod, that makes sense. winkle I had a look at their website - it's pretty informative. Seems to be a combo of making the way easier for the sperm, as well as stuff that is good for them and keeps them going. Have a look here:
www.conceiveplus.com/

captainmoll · 01/11/2012 17:09

Oh and I also found this video which really cleared a lot of the science of ovulation up for me (apols if it's already been posted in that video spree a way back - my internet is very unreliable and I couldn't get those earlier vids to load)

(I particularly enjoyed the couple on the beach at the start, because that is obvs what ALL our lives are like.. Hmm )
