Congrats quod! Fab news :)

winkle2 · 28/10/2012 11:27

Can I ask everyone if you time sex around OV or have sex throughout the month?

During the 15 months we've been TTC we've mostly timed sex around OV, ie, starting around cd10 and finishing around cd20ish. We are using the CBFM.

Recently Ive been saying to my husband that we should be making and effort to dtd when I'm not OV too but he says he wants to concentrate on the OV times cause he doesn't want to tire himself out dtd when we're not going to get pregnant.

What do you think?

Pipbin · 28/10/2012 11:37

Well Winkle, last time we were at the fertility clinic the doctor said that it is best to try the whole month and not get hung up on doing it OV week.

With my DH we had a long talk about it, and we never talk about sex really, and his problem was that he didn't want me to have rubbish sex. He wanted me to 'enjoy it' every time, IYKWIM. I said that actually I would rather he got the job done as it were than keep going and I can still enjoy sex without 'reaching a conclusion'.
With that we managed it just about every other day, not that it has worked.

Bunny I'm just hoping she holds off until Tuesday or Wednesday when I have my next clinic appointment and get Clomid. I'm hoping that I can get straight on it with this coming cycle.

yorkiebilb · 28/10/2012 12:28

Thanks Pipbin

Pipbin · 28/10/2012 12:34

Did you find the answer Yorkie? I would have linked to it but I was on the phone, and in bed.

Quodlibet · 28/10/2012 13:27

Thanks for all the best wishes ladies. Yes of course I will be sticking around.

Winkle, the quality/quantity balance is a hard one. Why do you want more sex outside of OV times? Just general closeness/intimacy or trying to increase chances? Or both? It's difficult not to end up with sex just being all about TTC isn't it?

yorkiebilb · 28/10/2012 13:40

Not yet Pipbin as travelling back from Hertford at the moment and rubbish reception so will have a look when I get back and see if I can find an answer!

Purplemonster · 28/10/2012 16:16

Congrats Quod!

Pipbin · 28/10/2012 16:22

For Yorkie, and others, here is what FF has to say about the clocks changing:

Do I have to do anything special to chart my BBT when the time changes for Daylight Saving Time?

The effect of Daylight Saving Time (DST) on your temperature is usually limited to the day of the change because you adjust quite quickly. In addition, the exact effect depends strongly on your own metabolism. Some people will see no effect at all while others will see a slight change (increase or decrease). Because in general having one temperature slightly off will not change your chart interpretation, Fertility Friend's recommendation is to record your temperature as usual without correcting it in any manner. We recommend that you keep taking the temp at the same time. If you took it at 6 in the morning before the change, then take it at 6 in the morning after the change.

paah · 28/10/2012 16:23

yorkie I think the most important thing is taking it as soon as you wake up rather than at a specific time so if its normally 7 but you woke up at 6 then take it at 6 cos cos if you wait til 7 it will be higher. I'm no expert tho.

janey1234 · 28/10/2012 17:23

Quod - not necessarily - I think I'm about 13DPO too! Last AF 2nd oct so all being well due date of 8th July apparently... We must be about the same?

yorkiebilb · 28/10/2012 17:57

Thanks pipbin and paah for your advice. Much appreciated!

Quodlibet · 28/10/2012 18:14

Janey - yep, fertility friend is giving me a due date of 8 July too! How funny.

winkle2 · 28/10/2012 18:28

Quod - 2 reasons really. One so that we have a healthy sex life throughout cycle and two to increase our chances if OV happens to occur outside of fertile week. There are some cases where women say they got pregnant having sex at the time if the month when they thought they couldn't possibly be ovulating.

Anyone heard of the fertility show in London next week? Me and hub are thinking of going.

Quodlibet · 28/10/2012 18:52

Sounds like good reasoning to me winkle! From my experience it can be hard to balance upping the sex frequency past the pattern you would naturally fall into, and making sure no one feels it is becoming an obligation rather than a pleasure!! A bit of a tightrope act trying to get that one right (unless you are one of those couples who have boundless sexual energy and enthusiasm, but I doubt that description fits many people - that isn't me anyway!)

Bunnygirlie · 28/10/2012 19:37

Pipkin - sorry to be a thicky but what is clomid?

OP posts:
Pipbin · 28/10/2012 19:54

Clomid is like the opposite of the pill, rather than making sure you don't ovulate, it ensures you do.
I'm not too sure why I'm going to get it TBH as tests seem to indicate I ovulate. From what I understand they want to give everything a go as quick as they can incase I need IVF as I am getting on a bit.

Bunnygirlie · 28/10/2012 20:25

Ah I see. How long you been trying?

My doctor wants to see me in new year if no luck so I guess they will do some tests then?!?

OP posts:
Pipbin · 28/10/2012 20:36

I stopped the pill the day before the Royal Wedding which was the end of April 2011. Went to the doctor after 6 months as I'm over 35.
First thing that happened was blood tests for me and semen analysis for DH. I'm guessing that is where your doctor will start.

Bunnygirlie · 28/10/2012 20:52

Ah I see, I'm 33 in the new year so I know they won't do much till we've been trying a year so I may added on a few months when I spoke to her. I'll be into the surgery on jan 2nd if it doesn't happen lol.
Wish we'd started on on honeymoon sept last year, maybe we'd have been lucky by now :-s

OP posts:
Pipbin · 28/10/2012 21:12

I wish I'd started 5 years ago, but what can you do.

Bunnygirlie · 28/10/2012 21:16

Indeed, life tis a funny thing :-)

OP posts:
winkle2 · 28/10/2012 22:37

Quod - we've been together 10 years so dtd hadn't been high on our agenda before TTC! TTC has been good for us as its made us make more of an effort.

Pip and bunny I wish I had started TTC after my wedding but waited 4 months as I was going on hols :(
