Hi is it possible to get pregnant while exclusively breast feeding day and night before your period has returned?

Yes breast feeding offers no protection against pregnancy - if you don't want to come pregnant again use another form of protection. You have no idea when your period will start and therefore no idea when you are ovulating. Breast feeding doesn't prevent either.

Yes, I'm pretty sure some of the regulars on here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding have become pregnant like that.

"Yes breast feeding offers no protection against pregnancy"

This is not true.

If your periods have not returned, the baby is EBF AND the baby is less than 6 months old, the Lactational Amenorrhea Method is very good at preventing pregnancies.

Risk of pregnancy: 2% typical use, 0.5% perfect use

Compare that to, say, the Pill on its own: 6-8% typical use, 0.1% perfect use.

Clearly, ANY form of contraception can fail so if it is very important to you that you don't become pregnant, use two forms. Jules Oliver (wife of Jamie) famously had two children in 12.5 months while EBFing!
