For anyone who hasn’t read my posts on conception, me and DH have been ttc our 2nd baby since May of last year. Generally I have had a regular cycle of between 28/30 days. However, I am now on CD33, and my AF has not yet appeared. Have had sore boobs and been a bit nauseous, although have written that off really as usually get sore boobs before AF is due. Have done two tests, one on Thursday night, and one yesterday morning (first thing) and both returned bfn. Today have had light spotting but definitely not bleeding that would be the same as a period. I’m really hoping this could be my AF but the bleeding is definitely not like my normal AF.

Am beginning to become slightly concerned now as someone suggested that pg symptoms with no af and neg tests could mean that I might have an ectopic pregnancy as the HCG levels don’t rise so quickly in an ectopic. I’m guessing it could be too late for an implantation bleed, unless I ovulated later in the month? And wouldn’t the tests have shown up positive anyway?

So, at what point should I really go to gp, I know that if I go tomorrow and say I’m 5 days late she’ll probably just say “these things happen”, at what point can they detect an ectopic, does it have to rupture and you be in excruciating pain before it becomes apparent? Or is there a way to know before this happens.

Please can someone advise me I’m getting worried now.

I don't know much, but i did think you got a lot of pain with ectopic pg's. There is some info about ectopic pg's on babycentre.co.uk.

Maybe you have tested to early, i was reading something the other day about an implant bleed or spotting which many people mix up with af. Good luck, google early signs of pregnancy on google and you'll be able to find it.

you would get bleeding and/or pain with ectopic. i'm not sure theres much they can do atm, when did you last test? could be that you ovulated a few days later this month, which would hold up a preg test result.

my friend had an ectopic and she was in agony and said she felt dreadful from day 1. maybe if you wait another few days then test again beofre going to the doctor. i'm sure unless you're in a great pain they won't do anything.

speaking from the experience of ttc for 2 years and knowing how awful it can be at times, i would suggest that your period has actually started. i lost count of the times i thought i was pg because my bleeding was late / irregular / different from normal but i had to come to the conclusion in the end that my body was playing tricks on me. i could actually do a link to almost identical threads i started on the same theme as yours. i really feel for you and i hope i'm wrong but if i'm not and it is your period you just have to pick yourself up dust yourself off and try again next month. I'm sure it will happen for you in the end, just try not to torture yourself every month.

Hi wannabe1974 I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago - symptoms were feeling ill, pain in side which got worse as weeks went by, generally ill and tired, slight bleeding which was like my period about to start (kind of orangy brown), +ve preg test. Didn't know anything about ectopic preg then until I collapse in pain when my fallopian tude ruptured. I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time. Ectopics can happen from 6 - 11 weeks I think I read.

When I become pregnant with ds1 last year they tested me for ectopic (because of the last one) where they took blood to measure my hormone levels. They then take another blood test 48hours later to measure same hormone again. If it has increased then it's a normal pregnancy, if it has decreased then you'll likely miscarry but if it stays the same then it's likely to be an ectopic.
THey will then do a laproscopy to find out whats going on.

I've heard shoulder tip pain is also a sysmpton but I didn't have this with mine.

Hope this helps :)

I had a really strong + test using an afternon we sampleon day 30 of a usual 30 day cycle.
On day 32 4pm I had brown watery spotting. I came on to mn and asked about it, one person said be aware of an ectopic, so I said I would get it checked the next day.
At 5am the next morning I woke up at 5am with hideous pains which caused me to pass out. I was rushed to hospital via ambulance and into emegency surgery for an ectopic.
With preg tests if it is enough to stop your period, it should be enough to give you a line on a test - are you using early morning urine?

Is your spotting brown?
This was the only clue, also watch for shoulder tip pain, it is a sign of internal bleeding. I had this too but ignored it as heartburn.

Moomin · 20/03/2006 19:14

wannabe said her tests were both negative. an ectopic would be +ive wouldnt it?

Piffle · 20/03/2006 19:16

yes it should be positive
Recently I started spotting on the day my af was due then nothing for 3 days then af
My cycel has just got longer and changed. could it be something like that ?
The sort of bleeding chould give you a clue though.

jmum6 · 20/03/2006 19:22

Yes ectopics are +ve

jmum6 · 21/03/2006 20:54

Well at lest thats something.

jmum6 · 21/03/2006 20:54

oops i mean 'least'

wannaBe1974 · 21/03/2006 21:39

hello all :)

thanks for reassuring words on this post and sorry for not updating on here earlier. My AF arrived with avengence this morning, actually it arrived with very excruciating cramps the likes of which I haven't experienced since I was a teenager - I put this down to the length of my cycle this month.

So now I think my body is just having a laugh at my expense - ain't the human anatomy just great?

thanks again all xx
