Missed period but BFN?

Hi all, been lurking on here for a couple on months but this is my first post! DP and I have been TTC(#1) for 4 months. Since coming off the pill I had thought my cycle had been a pretty regular 28-29 days, Af was due yesterday. Have had light cramping for about 2 weeks, very light brown spotting for about 5 days but this has never came to anything. Did test this morning and it was BFN. Am now wondering if I have possibly got my cycle length wrong. With my previous cycles I have had brown spotting for up to 6 days before Af arrived, but I have counted the first day of 'proper' bleeding as day 1. But should have counted the first day of spotting? Sorry if this sounds very confused, it reflects how I feel! Also feel a little silly that I managed to get to 29 and not understand this kind of thing correctly! Thanks for any help you can give.

You are right to count the first day of proper bleeding as day 1. Cycle lengths can vary with each cycle (I think anywhere up to 5 days variation in cycle length is considered normal).

It could be that you are pregnant but there was only a small amount of hcg in your wee, so the test was negative. I would test again in a few days if you haven't had af by then.

I'm in the same position, was due thursday, but negative test. Don't know how i should be feeling, part of me is hoping its just too early, part of me thinks I can't be lucky enough as only been TTC for 2 months. I just want to know which it is!

Thanks guys. Good to know I'm not counting wrong. I'm trying very hard not to get my hopes up, going to try and leave it a whole week and if there is still no further sign of af test again. First I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you! I know a couple of people of have conceived 1st or 2nd cycle, hope you will be lucky.
