Early pregnancy lost - advised to wait 2 months

before TTC again (midwife said mainly for dating reasons).

Don't really want to postpone, I'm 40 and feel time is running out.
Having said that, hormones are all over the place, had scan last week which showed a failed pregnancy at 7 weeks and just started to bleed now, so I'm not sure what is going on...
Anyone else advised to wait?

2 months sounds excessive after an early mc to me.

After we mc at 6 weeks we were advised to wait until after next period but only to help with dating, not that there would be a risk to a new pregnancy.

I think the advice about waiting after a mc is out of date. Pretty sure you are meant to start trying again as soon as you want (waiting for dating purposes does make sense).

I am so sorry for you loss. 2 months Seems a long time to wait. I would wait till you get a negative pregnancy test then go for it. Test once a week. The reason is that firstly if there are old hormones around you probably won't get pregnant anyway (in fact your mc might not be complete and you might need some treatment. Second, if you don't and you test positive in a few weeks you won't know if this is a new pregnancy or the end of this one. The dating thing is not really an issue. If you get pregnant quickly (I hope you do) an early scan will sort that.

After my mc I tested negative after about a week I think, started trying straight away, which I what I was advised was ok.. My cycles were all over the place though. I got pregnant on cycle 4, the first one that felt normal. Am now 24 weeks. Good luck.

What bonzo said. The intention behind the advice is a paternal "mental healing" thing, when what many people want to do in order to get past their loss is to TTC right away. The other reason is for their own dating purposes but with early ultrasounds (and early BFPs if you test a lot!) it's not an issue. So long as you can be sure the bHCG is out your system and then you later get a BFP, there's no issue on that front.

Physically your body won't allow you to conceive until it is ready again.

I am so sorry for you. I had the very same experience and am only a little younger than you. I'm assuming this is your first?
I hope I can bring some optimism: I miscarried in early December after 8 weeks and was pregnant again by the end of January. It was a healthy pregnancy and my son is nearly 2 now.
I have heard that after a miscarriage you can be extremely fertile. I had asked a GP at the time when I could try again after the miscarriage. He didn't know! So we cracked on after a few weeks' wait and hey presto...

Am sorry for you- but with regards to dating, they can do a scan which tells the exact date the baby was conceived. She might be asking this as they wait for 3 months to do the scan and you can opt for the tests to see if the baby has any problems which is between 11-14 weeks. You can always ask for an earlier scan or get one done privately if there is that much confusion. think prose is right and your body will dictate when it's ready.

Perhaps wait until your next period starts? or when you stop bleeding? Ttc is such a minefield for me anyway..

I had an early mc in June but my gp told me there was no reason to wait if I felt ready to try again but I was surprisingly ok with what happened and so as soon as we had a negative hpt we went for it. He said although it may be harder to date, as my body was most fertile it was ok and shouldn't pose a threat to new pg. I could have kissed him!

I fell pg again before my period came and am now nearly 15wks.

There was a confusing (and very stressfull) time where I started testing again and couldn't work out whether it was left over hormones or indeed a new pg and had no choice but to wait.

I think it depends on how each person is feeling mentally as some take the loss harder than others.
