Does Mirena Coil really cause miscarriage if don't wait 2-3 months?

:( was planning to start TTC soon, as soon as Mirena coil removed.

Just found out a lot of people think the Mirena causes miscarriage if you don't wait 2-3 months after removal. I certainly wasn't told this at the time I had it.

What are your experiences/thoughts?

I would like to know some official stats for this. I had my mirena removed to TTC DC4. I have always conceived on cycle one (pg one and three ended in mc) so We just got on with it. Sure enough, cycle one I had a positive early pregnancy test but went on to have a very heavy and painful period. I guess this counts as another early mc or a chemical pg. Obviously, I can't say that mirena caused it as it may have happened anyway. We are now still TTC on cycle 4 which is a very new experience for us.

I have never heard of this before but I had mine out 3 months before I conceived DC2 and miscarried at 9 weeks. All other pregnancies (3 of them) have been fine, conceived after stopping pill.

Out of interest, do both of you mean you conceived (& subsequent MC'd) on Cycle 1 following removal ie without waiting 2-3 cycles / 6-8 weeks before trying? Or are you counting Cycle 1 from point started TTC. Sorry for your loss...have you managed to successfully conceive since? X

How can it cause a miscarriage if it's not there?!

Since miscarriages are sadly so common, the miscarriages described above probably would have happened anyway. But if you are basing your opinion on anecdote and not science, I got pregnant with first child as soon as I had Mirena out

I didn't wait and fell pregnant on cycle 1 (I am very lucky to fall pregnant easily).

Have had two babies since m/c Smile

Hi apparently the mirena thins the uterus lining thus helping to prevent pregnancy, so therefore doing its job. It then takes a few months for the lining of your uterus to become plumped up again and making it a ideal home for a fertilised egg after it is removed.

In my experience - had mirena taken out, had it removed a day or so before my period was due so called this my first post mirena period. We tried to coniceve straight away 15 days later when I was due to ovulate and I did get a BFP that month, only to start bleeding heavily a few days later.

This would have been my 3DC and the first time I had had a mirena and never miscarried early or late before.

We then waited a clear month and had a period until we tried again and I'm now 20 weeks pregnant. Had a bleeding scare early on but everything was ok.

I was like you I thought bah! I'm just going to get cracking and the GP even said it was ok to start straight away but waiting would be sensible as it would also make dating the pregnancy easier if you have a whole cycle first.... But me being impatient didn't. Wish I had now then I might have not been so nervy about losing this pregnancy so early on.

I know its hard as you just want to start trying straight away and are excited but from my experience I would wait at least one month and have a whole cycle before trying. A little patience might just save you the trauma and upset of a early miscarriage.

Same here first try after coil out and mc at 8 weeks, had no problem after implanon don't know if related but if I had thought mc was a risk I wouldn't have used the coil !

We didn't bother waiting 2-3 cycles as we were told that we didn't need to. We started TTC on my first cycle post-mirena.

I would live to see some proper stats though. According to the people who make mirena, you have an 85% chance of conceiving in the first twelve months post-removal. I thought that you generally had a 90% chance in 12 months so does this mean that mirena leaves some women infertile? I have to say, there is so much anecdotal evidence of mirena issues that I think it's about time some more stats were collated and analysed even if it's just to put womens' minds at ease.

I think concieving / ovulation after a mirena seems ok, it's the sustaining of the embryo that seems to be the problem.

I didn't know about this, DC 3 was conceived the month after mirena was removed.
It was removed mid Feb 2010, a week later I had a heavy two week bleed, I had BFP end of March. I did have problems with bleeding in early pregnancy but DS2 was fine.

I had a mirena, which should be removed after 5 years, I waited 7 years to have it removed. I was pregnant about 1.5 months after removal. I had no complications conceiving or any after. Just thought this might help some.

I had the mirena since I was 16, got it again at 20, took it out at 23, to start a family. I got pregnant almost right after it was out; (my doctor said that was fine to do) I’m 9 weeks and 5 days yesterday I started bleeding a ridiculous amount and rushed to the hospital. They couldn’t tell me anything. My baby’s heartbeat was still going. I have an appointment in two days to get checked out. I’m so heartbroken. I’m so mad I didn’t read reviews before trying to get pregnant. I pray my baby is okay, but I fear the worst
