Bleeding in possible early pregnany - and negative HPT

Hope this post/questions make some sense:
we've been TTC for 12 months, and in July this year I thought it had happened, 2 day late period with 1 day very light bleeding (hoped it was implantation bleeding), nipple/boob changes, nausea, all the signs and symptoms - except when i POAS the HPT came back negative (every time).
So i was moaning about this to my sister who then revealed that all of the time she was pregnant with her 6 DD she never had a positive HPT - and it was only through a blood pregnancy test that she had it confirmed.
I therefore dutifully went of to see my GP, who between telling me that there was no such thing as a blood pregnancy test!! dismissed me out of the surgery without discussing other causes for the symptoms or irregularity - and surprising didn't even give me the standard TTC advice........ I'd had enough so changed GP - but because my new GPS are an excellent but busy surgery i only had my first apt a week ago; so between the disastrous appointment and my new appointment I had another 1 day period (light) and I'm normally a 4 day girl.
My new GP was excellent when i saw her and has requested bloods (to test for preg and also ovulation etc) but i now have a week to wait for the results.
So here's my list of questions:
am i mad to think i might be pregnant? I'm sacred that i so want to be pregnant that I'm convincing myself about the symptoms (although even OH has noticed and his not the most observant)
and has anyone else had this kind of regular bleeding?
and has anyone else not tested positive with a HPT but was with a blood test?
sorry to go on - advice need Confused

fairy - it is possible that you could be pregnant with negative pregnancy tests, but it is unlikely. Both my mum and sister had negative urine tests (blood tests not done), and were 3 and 4 months pregnant respectively before their pregnancies were confirmed in other ways.

One mn'er reported that her hcg (blood test) levels never rose above 16, (25 is pregnant) so despite being pregnant her blood tests never confirmed it.

As for the regular bleeding, some women do get "breakthrough" bleeding during pregnancy around the time each period would have been due in early pregnancy, so this is possible.

Another possibility is that your cycle has just changed in nature. I went from a 4 day to a 2 day period in my 30's, gp said that hormones situation can change as you get older, so changes in cycle can be completely normal.

I hope that you get positive results from your gp next week.
