Hi all,
I am 36, have been ttc for 3 years, tests show I am ovulating and husband is having sperm test this week and we have docs appointment next week to get referred to the fertility clinic.
Can anyone please tell me what this first visit is likely to involve?
Or any idea what they might do?

Thanks Xx

It depends on the hospital.

I'd had blood tests with the GP (as it sounds like you have) and my husband had had an SA.

At the 1st fertility clinic appointment, I was sent for a rubella immunity test, an internal ultrasound and a HSG. He was sent for a second SA. At the next appointment we got the results and a course of action was decided upon (our results were all normal so we were diagnosed as "unexplained" and referred for IVF).

I think my hospital was unusually efficient though. I know others on this board have taken many more appointments to get to that stage.

Waiting with interest to see what others say. I too have my first fertilty appointment and wondered what would happen. Didn't realise that they would send me for tests there and then, thought it would be more of a discussion! But it did say the appointment would be at least an hour. I'd love it if my hospital are as efficent as yours fingers crossed!!! :)

My experience was similar to Eurochick's. I had my first appointment with a nurse who did some blood tests and an internal scan. DH had a sperm analysis. Once the results were back we had an appointment with the consultant who talked through our options. In our case her advice was IVF due to low sperm count and we were told we could start as soon as we were ready.

When I was seen they took a full history from me and DH - medical conditions, previous pregnancies (or not). They repeated the blood tests for me and did another sperm analysis. They referred me for a HSG and pelvic ultrasound fanny can and then brought us back when all the results were in.

I had a medical history taken, they asked to redo my DH's SA and I was weighed and told not to put on any weight or they wouldn't see me again.

We then went back for DH's results and I was booked in for an HSG, which happened about a month ago, and I booked my third appointment for October.

They took a full history of both of us. Like you I'd already had day 3 and 21 bloods and DH had had a SA, so they had some data to go by already. I was given an ultrasound to check my ovaries (this is the transvaginal ultrasound, so you may want to mentally prepare -it's really not so bad) DH was referred for another SA and I was referred for an HSG.
