Fertility Diet

Hello there

I posted a few months ago when DH and I found out about his non-existent sperm count. Since then he's seen his endocrinologist and we've been referred to a fertility expert to investigate what our options might be. It's been recommended that his hormone therapy is changed (currently has testosterone replacement) and he starts taking FSH to hopefully stimulate sperm production.

Now it's clearly still a long shot (although the doc said that of the last 10 men he treated, 8 got their wives pregnant within 18 months), but I'd like to increase our chances of this working!

Can anyone recommend what we should be doing to improve chances of conception generally? Particularly I'm thinking about diet, but any suggestions are welcome!

This might be a long shot but a friend in the states her DH has started to eat walnuts as apparently they are good for improving sperm.

Zinc and vit c are supposed to help too.

cut out booze and fags and eat more green leafy veg, brazil nuts, goji berries. a healthy diet can't hurt!

That was for your DH. (Post above)

I have cut out all alcohol, been eating a really healthy diet lots of leafy greens. And taking pregnacare vits.

My hubby takes Wellman Conception plus a Vitamin C and Zinc tablet.

Brazil nuts, Q10 supplements, definitely give up alcohol. I am still sure that the latter is what made the difference for my DH's sperm count. He had issues with low volume. It was 9 at his first sperm analysis (WHO average guidelines is 20). It increased to 11 6 months later. He then cut down on alcohol for 3 months and gave up completely for 3 months before/during my IVF cycle. He was tested the week before egg collection and his results had shot up to 36! We were lucky enough to have a successful cycle.

My acupunturist said that giving up fags (if relevant) is the best thing men can do. Acupuncture can also be used to help boost male fertility.

I'm reading a really interesting book called The Baby-Making Bible, which has lots of tips and advice.

Share your tips then Woody :)

Thanks for the tips guys, I suppose I'll probably get into this in a big way - at least it'll feel like I'm doing something! Fortunately we're neither of us smokers or in fact big drinkers. Do you all think we should cut alcohol out altogether? We only have a few units each a week...
Just realised I'm going to have to start taking folic acid, got me quite excited...sad sad girl

I read an article in the Guardian yesterday and her husband had been told to eat blueberry jam. Oh and I read something about fathers to be taking folic acid too
