What are the odds of 7 BFPs?

I went to the pharmacist to ask about a thing on my tongue (yeah, sorry for the TMI) and she asked if I were pregnant. I sort of stood, dumbfounded and admitted we were trying but that BF and I had been sick last month so changes were damned low.

My period is due either tomorrow or Friday but I thought, for peace of mind, I'd do a test. BFP. So I did another 4 tests. BFP on all of them.

So I waited the agonising 20 minutes til my partner came home and told him. I'm pretty suspicious at this point - I just feel like my period is coming, you know? So we went out and bought 2 Clearblue tests that give the dates on them. Both BFP saying 3+ weeks.

Basically my question is what are the odds of so many false positives? I've got a docs appointment booked for next Wed anyway so will get him to do a blood test. I just feel like I won't let myself believe it in case it's negative.. We've only been trying for 2 months...

So sorry for rambling... :(

Grr obviously the title was meant to say 7 false BFPs...

:) I really don't know how to feel. I think I'll do another test tomorrow morning in case there was something in my urine giving odd results.

When I was so suspicious about the first batch I made my BF pee on one of them to prove it wasnt a duff batch ;)

No more tests! You are pregnant. Congratulations!

Thanks. I truly don't feel like I deserve congratulations though. Once you go for a blood test at the docs, how long does it normally take to come back? Days? Week?

I think I'd struggle to wait a week to find out tbh...

When I was pregnant with my daughter no blood tests to confirm my pregnancy were taken. The Dr just took my word for it! I remember thinking that felt really weird, but he said that the over the counter tests are so good these days they are as accurate as a test by a dr. Congratulations!

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 05/09/2012 20:13

Doc will do a urine test as well and will confirm straight away. Congrats!

Heavensmells · 05/09/2012 20:14

Of course you are pregnant! Congratulations. No blood tests usually given at docs as they usually take your word.

If you've done 7 home pregnancy tests, the gp won't do bloods. They won't even do a urine test.

The thing in your urine which makes a bfp is hcg (human chorionic gonadotropin). You produce this when pregnant. False positives are extremely rare and the reasons for them are detailed in the test instructions (things like v specific chemo treatments). If you get a positive test it's because you're producing the human pregnancy hormone. You're pregnant.

Congratulations! Trust me, you're pregnant :) Not over different brands, and unless you were using a trigger shot during fertility treatment which you'd have been warned about, nothing could give a false positive.

You say the digital said 3+ weeks.. could it be you conceived the month before, and your period wasn't your period, but pregnancy bleeding? I bleed a LOT in the first trimester. With my first I would have said it was a lightish period had I not been testing like mad.

It's worth mentioning to your doctor about the digital because if you're further along than you think, that can mess with your NT scan (if you want it) as it needs to be done between 11-14 weeks, no earlier, no later. You may get sent for an early dating scan if there is confusion as to how far along you are.

Thank you all so much. For some reason I don't believe my partner who's telling me lots of these things but I believe them coming from you lol.

Will do another test on Friday morning just to rest my mind but if it's positive I think I'll just accept it :)
