What counts as spotting?

Like the title says really.
I get watery brown spotting. Does that count?
What do you consider to be spotting?

I count any red, pink or brown-tinged discharge I get as spotting. My period sort of fades in and fades out with pink/brown CM turning into full flow over a few days. No idea if that's the 'right' definition though.

quod, my AF does something similar. Interested to know when you count day 1? I know the advice is red flow so I go for when it turns bright red but I wouldn't exactly say it 'flows' at that point iykwim!
pipbin Is your spotting usually in the lead up to AF?

Pipbin · 03/09/2012 22:03

My spotting is indeed in the lead up to AF. This month there has been much less of it. Normally it is TMI ALERT rather brown and sludgy, but this month it as been much more watery, and less of it.

Hiya, I have been googling spotting as my usual AFs are TMI a lot of blood but this month has just been a tiny bit of blood only when I sit on the loo which is really odd. Can't be Implantation bleed as haven't DTD lately but some websites say that you can get minor bleeds in place of your normal periods and be PG so who knows!!!

I think us here on the Conception boards need more words for spotting (a bit like the Eskimos famously having 67 words for snow). Thanks to Toni Weschler we have different words for CM, I think we need the equivalent for the myriad of spotting variations!

Bunny that sounds hopeful to me.
Lolly yes like you I count the day it goes bright red as CD1 but yes likewise 'flow' is not an accurate description!
Pipbin I have had both those kinds of spotting but no idea what it means that yours is different to normal...

ImpatientOne · 04/09/2012 20:49

I agree Quod we definitely need some words - preferably ones that don't turn the stomach!

I recognise a couple names on here from other spotting threads too!

Grin at snow and spotting variety analogy!
pipbin i am far from an expert and this is not meant to worry you but just so you know what I've read- if it is very watery and like prune juice (?) it can be a sign of ectopic. What's more likely is that it's just one of the many unexplained spotting varieties!

Pipbin · 04/09/2012 21:47

It's the same as I get most months, and AF has just turned up so I'm not worried about that too much.
Thanks though.
