I took a test two weekends ago and it was negative. My periods erratic (26-30 days ish), and took about day 26-27. Today, (28+15) took another as feeling so many symptoms and no period arrived. It is positive. We have not made love in between Biscuit.. Has this happened to others? Does it mean something is wrong? Doctor surgery umm ing and ah ing about any appointment this week and want to know if I can dare believe?!
Thank you

Hey scarecrow

I'm no expert but it sounds like good news to me... It sounds like the hormones could have been too low to detect in the first test but are high enough now to show up? Maybe do another one first thing in the morning to check? But sounds good so fingers crossed...

What were your symptoms, out of interest? (can you tell I'm TTC?!)

Hi no expert here at all-didn't even realise this time I was pregnant til nearly 8 weeks gone. But I would say that the first test probably your hormones were too low to detect, it also depends on the time of day you took the test. so I would say sounds like good news..... My dr told me a false positive is extremely rare but a false negative very common. Will have um fingers crossed for you x

Thank you both. Symptoms earlier were simply extreme tiredness, grumpiness (!) and sore breasts - hence my suspicions. But was so wanting to be pregnant was wondering if I was just mis reading PMT and the symptoms of a cute but strong willed 20 mo dd and job. Am more hopeful now, thank you both for support.
janey1234 what gave it away for me was feeling nauseous and completely going off coffee and alcohol and having odd cravings for crisps and hummus - both of which happened last time.
I have just sent off my CV to headhunters having despaired of conceiving again - so maybe that is a top tip ;) V good luck, x

Only way to conclusively know is to POAS again! If your cycles are somewhat irregular, it's possible that you ovulated on the later side so got pregnant but the first time you tested was too soon to show up on the test. Fwiw I've done 11 tests (and a variety of types) so far to confirm I'm pregnant! All the doctors would do is a urine test.

janey my symptoms were: a blood sugar crash at 12dpo - unusual for me, heightened sense of smell - to the point that strong smells made me sick at 13dpo so I POAS and got a BFP! I've also had extreme fatigue and sore boobs (but I often got that in the tww so that alone didn't convince me!)

False negatives are common and don't mean there's anything wrong AFAIK. All it means is that the test didn't pick up enough pregnancy hormone to show a positive (could be simply too early in the pregnancy, or one of many other reasons)

False positives are almost unheard of!

Congratulations! Grin
