Driving myself mad with faint lines

Last night I had a glass of wine and it made me feel queasy. I thought it might be around the time I could expect my period so I did an internet cheapie, just before bed. Got what at first I thought was BFN but on extremely close inspection had a very, very, very faint line. This morning I did two more ICs, and threw an ovulation tester in for good measure. Very faint, but less faint, lines on the ICs and a fairly clear but not as clear as the control line on the ovulation test. Went and bought a FRER and got two lines, pretty clear. But then my fatal addition took control again, I did another IC late afternoon, and got a really, really faint line again. Last time I was preggers, the lines on the IC were dark from the very start.

Sorry, long waffle, but basically, are ICs less sensitive than FRER or am I just not very pregnant? Am I not pregnant enough even to be testing and it could all go away tomorrow? No idea when I ovulated but we sexed EOD all month.

sounds pregnant to me, a line is a line is a line

congratulations

Ellypoo · 01/09/2012 08:53

I think a faint line is still a line and best to do tests first thing in am when wee is more concentrated.
Sounds like you're preggers - congratulations!!!

HaveALittleFaith · 02/09/2012 12:49

I had exactly the same. Felt sick, got two fuzzy lines on cheapies. Instant positive on FRER. I am now, two weeks later, getting very clear positives (using up my cheapies). You are pregnant! Congratulations! Now stop POAS! Grin

Depends on the IC batch. Some are darker than others.. even if they're the same brand. I Blush test on several brands at a time during the peak-potential BFP time. If I do get a BFP, to make sure it's not a chemical I test with First Response daily for a short while as well as the ICs.

Also some people test differently at different times of day. Or depending on what they've eaten (salty foods make wee more concentrate) Or how much they've drunk. Or how long they've held it in for. And so on. It's much more pronounced in the very early stages because the values are so low and only just above the tolerance for the test. Percentage wise a few points of bHCG could show up as a really faint line on one test and quite visible on another. When your levels are quite high, they're more likely to look similar.

Having said that, I had a chemical last month, but I didn't start to worry until I had 3-4 days of lines that didn't get any darker. Just a day or two of faint lines that don't seem to get darker is perfectly normal for a successful pregnancy - my 3 DC are proof of that!

Good luck!!

Thanks!

Faith, I'll stop if you do. Wink

I've had positives on a supermarket own brand test too now, so am thinking that something MUST be up. I may try an IC tomorrow just out of interest but otherwise will retire my wee now.

I have one IC left but I'm resisting now! :)

NoTeaForMe · 02/09/2012 22:39

Where do you buy the 'Internet cheapie' tests from?! Please don't just say the Internet!

whattodothistime · 02/09/2012 22:41

asda have packets of tests for a pound if you ask at the pharmacy, i have confirmed all my pregnancies with them

getawiggleon · 02/09/2012 23:07

I got faint lines on about ten a couple of internet cheapies and was driving myself mad trying to determine if it was just a figment of my imagination or if I really was pg. I then tried a frer and a really definite, much darker line appeared. That line is now 11 weeks old and fast asleep upstairs. Congratulations - I think you're pg! As others have said though, the line needs to be getting darker over the next few days and this is probably more reliable on frer rather than ic etc.

tea I bought mine from Amazon

MurderOfProse · 03/09/2012 00:50

eBay or Amazon for cheapies :)

MurderOfProse · 03/09/2012 00:54

They're just cardboard strips in a foil packet, not plastic containers etc. You don't wee on them directly, you wee in a "cup" (I use the plastic top off a toothpaste dispenser) and then stick them in it but obviously anything you're not planning on drinking out of will do. You normally pay not much more than £7.50ish for 50 tests. So around 15p each.

They come in two varieties usually - 25miu and 10miu. The 10miu cost slightly more, and pick up a pregnancy a bit earlier.

You can also buy ovulation tests for similar prices.

HaveALittleFaith · 03/09/2012 07:01

I use a Doritos salsa jar! Yes I'd get mine off amazon

Good for random testing if you've been TTC a while but I agree, thru are faint so when I got my ? BFP I went straight out and got FRER. Much clearer!

Sounds like a + to me. CONGRATS! X

MurderOfProse · 03/09/2012 19:40

Heh, not the tiny plastic top, the bigger, slightly transparent ones that go over the pumps! They're not huge, but they're still quite a bit bigger than those awful tubes they expect you to somehow wee in before antenatal appointments. They're just stupid.
