I'm living in hope that we won't need IVF a second time. The IVF wasn't very traumatic but I could really do without having it again. I'm peeing on lots of ovulation predictor sticks and trying to think cheerful thoughts.

Anyone want to keep me company?

Hiya cru cool name btw!

I'm just about to start IVF for the first time, start down reg injections in the morning eek! Shitting it to be honest... Did you try naturally before IVF last time or did you have a problem you managed to solve with the treatment? Sorry so nosey lol, just need some positive stories lol and I liked your comment about it not being too traumatic Wink

Good luck! Grin

Hi Scarlett

Nice to meet you. Yes, we tried naturally for about a year and a half beforehand. We also had three rounds of IUI which was worse in a way than IVF (less invasive but didn't work - plus I really hated the bit where the doctor said "and now you will have sex tomorrow night" - made sex such a chore). I have PCOS and therefore have very irregular periods which made TTC naturally really hard as there never seemed to be a right time.

I found IVF okay to be honest. Injecting my self a couple of times a day was something I dreaded but found okay. One thing I did was put the Menopur (in glass capsules) in my bra half an hour beforehand as it can sting to inject something cold.

Also, have you got all the medication you need now? Because I went private, the chemist had to order it and it took a while to get it in.

Are you getting the IVF on the NHS? We went to see the people at our local NHS hospital but they said we weren't eligible for funding. Actually, I've never met anyone who's been eligible, come to think of it.

I was super lucky and ended up with 12 embryos. One was discarded as it didn't make the progress they were looking for, one was put in (and is now my lovely little son Grin and the other ten were frozen). So I won't have to stimulate my ovaries again - but will still have to take the downreg drugs etc (I think).

I hope it goes well for you. Let me know how you do.

Love

CruCru

Crucru, it's possible to have natural FET, without drugs.

ScarlettInSpace · 31/08/2012 14:28

That was a good result re the embies - as you've got them there it may well be worth looking into what euro says about a natural transfer cycle...

I must admit the thought of IUI is much less appealing than IVF [and IVF isn't particularly appealing really], and it's not that we aren't dtd often enough or at the right time, in my case I'm a tube & an ovary down and I have low ovarian reserve, so apart from bypassing the tube with IVF or trying naturally until I run out of eggs there's not much else I don't think!

The injecting wasn't as bad as I expected, OH did it and we were given an autoinjector which helped I think.

We are on the NHS - we get 1 fresh & 3 frozen go at it so we are luckier than some [but not as lucky as other parts of the country where they give 3 fresh goes but heyho!] Thanks for the tip re Menopur, that stage looks pretty complicated but when we get to it I'm sure it will be alot simpler than I'm expecting! I have to pick up all my meds for the next stage at the hospital pharmacy - 45 minute wait last time! I told them I'd go shopping and come back then I didn't have to pay for parking either

If you fancy a bit more company, I post quite a bit on the brooking thread, there's a few of us there at various different stages of TTC and we try not to take it too seriously [hobbies besides SWI range from obscure symptom spotting and obsessive cycle watching to knitting & baking Grin ] but generally have a positive attitude [basically we all know we are actually pregnant but we just haven't found a pee stick that agrees with us yet Wink ]

Brook No Argument Thread

Good luck whatever you decide x

Hello Cru Cru

Without being really nosey - can I ask why you are going for the natural option as opposed to FET ?

(You must produce great quality embryos to have been able to freeze 10 ! We got none from our first cycle - and are just about to start our second .... !)

xx

Hi CruCru,

It took me three years to conceive DS, which only happened after monitored Clomid cycles (not as bad as IVF) but not very nice. They could never find out why I couldn't conceive, even after three years of tests.

I am now pregnant with DC2, conceived naturally. I had one month of trying, got pregnant immediately and miscarried. I then didn't try for six months, had sex once and am 12 weeks pregnant.

So it does appear that it can happen....now hoping for the best....Smile

Eurochick - really? I'd never heard of that. If I do have to go to the clinic again, I'll ask about it.

Scarlett - thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I hope it goes well for you. When preparing the menopur injections, just break it down into stages. You should get a leaflet telling you exactly what to do.

Missbrightside - basically as I had PCOS, I used to have very irregular periods. Since having DS, they've been much more normal - I'm hoping that being pregnant will have sorted out my system. Also, it is time consuming to keep going back to the clinic (and not cheap). I'd really like to be one of those people who have a lovely shag, do a test and go "surprise!". My clinic gets great results but all the waiting around alongside other anxious women makes it feel like a bit of a factory. Also, I'm back at work soon and it'll be hard to tell them that I'm having yet more fertility treatment when I've only just gone back.

Ruby - awesome, congratulations! Yep, hope that happens for me,
