TTC but on medication for anxiety

Hi, this is my first post here so please take it easy on me! My partner and I have just started TTC. I am 41 and on lustral for anxiety caused by my divorce 6 years ago. I was originally on citalopram which really suited me, but the dr said it would be better to come off it if TTC. I did this but the withdrawal symptoms were so bad I had to go back to the dr. I've been put on lustral now which is taking a bit of getting used to but it's only been 3 weeks. Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm worried because my age is already against us. Thanks

I'm in a bit of a similar situation, as I've got a chronic medical condition which I will be on drugs for the rest of my life for, absolutely no possibility of stopping them, but I would still like to have children. Basically, don't be pressurised into doing anything that doesn't suit you, as it will probably just make things worse in the end. If a particular drug is seriously contra-indicated in pregnancy, do your best to find an alternative, otherwise if it is just better if you are not on it (ideally none of us would been taking any meds really in pregnancy, but sometimes there is no choice), then do what is best for you, and take advice on anything you can do to minimise any risks. Make sure you have a GP (or specialist) that you can talk through any worries or concerns about, who has a decent knowledge about what the risks actually are, and who you trust and can support you. I incidentally have no knowledge at all about the drugs that you have taken, or anxiety, and I don't take these desicions lightly about the medication for myself. Maybe if you are a bit control freaky like me who likes to know everything, actually look up the stats about the medication and pregnancy yourself if that would reassure you... it will probably not be as dire as you think.
Hope this is useful

Hi, firstly I wanted to say i am sorry to hear that you have been feeling this way, know from xperience it snt a good way to feel!! However if it puts yur mind at rest, I was 40 when i got pregnant with my daughter and I was also on medication for depression. All i wanted to say is to make sure you keep telling someone how you feel because trying for a baby can bring its own anxieties and sressess so dont keep it all to yourself! Dont worry, best wishes xxxx

thanks for your replies wrighty2010 & a littleindecisive. We are trying to be really chilled out about TTC as stress only makes it harder I'm sure. We are of the mind that if it's meant to be, it will be. We don't want to go down the route of IVF etc if it doesn't work. Fingers crossed though :)
