TTC but no luck. What can I expect at a first Dr's appointment?

Hi I've been trying to conceive dc2 for 7 months. Admittedly not a long time but ds was conceived very easily and as I'm now 35 with irregular periods I've taken the advice from posters on other threads and my practice nurse to make an appointment with my GP. I'm quite scared because I suppose in a way making the appointment is another step towards admitting their may be a problem. If the GP is sympathetic (Nurse advised me to see this particular one as she deals with family planning) what could I expect to happen first?

I'm also about to start acupuncture to regulate my periods and am taking some herbal tablets which are supposed to help so if anyone has experience of that too I'd be interested to hear. Thanks!

Be very careful about self-medicating with herbal remedies. I've heard of lots of women having more problems as a result of some of these so called fertility aids.

At my first appointment with my GP she referred me for blood tests and an ultrasound. When the results came back from those, and it was obvious I had a problem, I was referred on to a fertility specialist at the local hospital.

GP's generally are not great on fertility issues - mine had to consult a book to see what blood tests I should be sent for!

Thanks Frankel. I've read lots about unsympathetic or clueless GPs when it comes to fertility so I'm just hoping she isn't one. I'm a bit about the whole Chinese medicine too but a friend swears by it and I have seen a Chinese Dr who prescribed the herbs. I'll see how I go with them and the acupuncture.
