Folic Acid

Hi everyone. I?m completely new here! I am hoping to get pregnant soon. I?ve heard that taking folic acid prior to getting pregnant is a good plan. I went to Boots and looked to see what they had ? there were so many options. Pregnacare was quite expensive but included a whole range of other vits (which I don?t know if they are that useful) then there was basic folic acid (much more reasonably priced) or folic acid with zinc. Can anyone tell me if it?s worth going with the more expensive option or if the plain folic acid is ok. I don?t mind paying more for it if it?s worth it. Any views?
Thank you!

You should start trying folic acid around 3 months before ou ttc or as on as you find out you're pg. I took the sanatogen mum to be prenatal vitamin which included folic acid. I took this all the way through my pregnancy, but I don't think you have to. Think the official guidelines are folic acid until 3 months. But like I said I took a good, all round prenatal vitamin until I gave birth. While I was breastfeeding, I took the vitabiotics breastfeeding and new mum vitamin.

Sorry that should read taking not trying.

Plain old folic acid is fine. You shouldn't need extra vitamins if you eat a good diet.

You can also buy cheaper conception vitamins from the Internet or other shops. I found one in wilkinson which is only over a quid and has other vitamins as well as folic acid!

Thanks everyone. I ended up going to Superdrug. They were doing an offer for 2 x packs of 112 daily tables for £3.99. Should keep me going for a while!
