So come tell me how to increase our chances of making a girl. I have a ds who is lovely but a bit of pink and sparkle would be lovely

warning, always a contentious issue in conception, most people are so desperate for a baby they wouldn't care what flavour it is but! I would suggest you investigate the Shettles method. I have no idea how accurate it is, but it's based on the idea of sperm seming ability - apparently the male sperm are sprinters whereas the female are marathon runners!

Be very careful OP, similar threads have resulted in many innocent civilians being killed in the crossfire.

In hindsight maybe conception wasnt the best place to post. It's hard work trying to make babies! I have had more than my fair share of problems in the world of conception and completely understand the potential tension this could cause hence 'lighthearted'.

I view it as a distraction for the stress, a bit of fun to lighten the load and a short term distract.

No offence meant.

My dh had 2 boys, then we had a boy together, when we decided to try again and lady he worked with told him to start eating more sweet things and stop eating eggs if he wanted a girl, he started putting sugar in his coffee started eating chocolate bars instead of crisps etc (I didn't really care either way but thought it would be interesting) we have went on to have 4 girls since the change in his diet. It may have been a coincidence but it is weird.

FrankelSaysRelax · 25/08/2012 15:07

No offence taken! I think the key is to keep it lighthearted.

If I recall correctly, the last OP to start a similar thread was quite offensive and cast accusations of bullying.

I'm sure you could ask for thread to be moved to Chat or similar Smile

To be fair, it is a conception issue and the OP should be allowed to ask a conception question in conception!!! It's just that this scene is dominated by long term TTC-ers. But yes there are certain ideas like Shettles and altering the pH of your (ahem) lady bits by eating certain foods that are believed to help. I don't think it's especially scientifically proven though!

HaveALittleFaith · 25/08/2012 15:37

And that last OP was rather unpleasant. Let's not tar cupcake with the same brush! :)

My friends have tried all the methods and suggestions for conceiving a girl and are the proud parents to 3 beautiful boys!

I think the fun is in the trying Wink

5madthings · 25/08/2012 15:45

4 boys and a girl here, we didnt do anything different, she was actually a bit of a bonus baby :)

technically i think girl sperm live longer but swim slower? and male sperm swim faster but die quicker? so if you have sex on the day you ovulate more likely to be a boy, for a girl you should have sex a few days before ovulation?

some people say position makes a difference.

anyway have fun trying :)

My "taking charge of your fertility" book has a whole chapter on this which I read with interest despite being desperate to conceive just one baby whatever kind!!!
It says that boys tend to be conceived from sex just before ovulation. The little guys don't like swimming too far or for too long. "Lady" sperms however are better at long distance swimming and survival so to have a little girl the theory is DTD two/three days before ovulation then stop and hope for the best. Easier said than done if you're cycle doesn't run like clockwork, clearly!
