Hi All

I am hoping to get some advice on the experience I have had with the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor. My husband and I have been ttc for just over a year and have been using the CBFM for the last 9 cycles without any joy. Within those 9 cycles, I peaked in only 3 cycles. I went to the doctor to check my ovulation in November 2011 and she said that everything was fine. Obviously we are now starting to panic and thinking that it will never happen for us. I peaked this month and I am keeping everything crossed. My average cycle length is 24 days and I ovulated on days 14 and 15 this month. Has anyone else had disappointment with the CBFM and can things like stress/bereavement affect ovulation?

Thanks x

If you have been ttc for just over a year now without success it is in order to seek a referral to a gynae at a subfertility unit via your GP. Gynaes generally like to see couples after 12 months of ttc without success. You need a diagnosis first and foremost as well as up to date test results for both of you therefore any test result done over 6 months ago should be discounted.

I would also now stop using the monitor as its not really helping. You had two peak days 14 and 15; what the monitor showed was an increased level of LH which can happen throughout the month anyway. These monitors are themselves not without problems; these assume that there is only one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is immediately followed by ovulation. Both are not true.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

Are you using any other method of monitoring your ovulation?
Temping would greatly help you see what is happening and confirm your ovulation date. I know that it only tells you after the fact but it would really set your mind at ease.

As said above you should be getting further help from your GP by now given the length of time you have been TCCing.

Also as said above there can be more than one rise. The first month I used one it gave me a peak on day 14 and 15 when I didn't actually ovulate until day 20. I called Clear Blue and they were of the opinion that they are never wrong. They very much are.

Also, keeping everything crossed isn't going to help much! Wink

Thank you both for your comments. My doctor has advised that my husband has to go for sperm testing before they come to me so we are waiting for an appointment for him. Once that happens, I will ensure that I get further help from my doctor. Thank you both x

I used a CBFM for 3 cycles and never once got a peak. It showed 'high' for 20 days of a 24/25 day cycle for all 3 cycles but no peak. I defintely ovulated because I got pregnant on cycle 3.
