Not always 14 days but individual women are fairly consistent.

I have a 28 day cycle and ovulate around day 11 which is earlier than a lot of people.

I have a 27 day cycle and usually around day 11-13. The phase you're talking about is the 'luteal phase' do you can look it up by the way. My luteal phase is usually about 16 days. The best thing they can do really is have sex every other day when they are together to get the likely time.

14 days is just an average.

She can tell by looking out for egg white mucus - this usually appears when a woman is at her most fertile.

FrankelSaysRelax · 19/08/2012 09:08

My luteal phase is 15 days, but my ovulation day varies wildly because of irregular cycles.

Knowing how long her luteal phase is will not really help in getting pregnant as ovulation does not (in most women) occur exactly always through the cycle.

No, its not always 14 days between ovulation and period starting, that is a myth and a damaging one at that.

Ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. If her periods are irregular in nature then it is more likely she is not ovulating regularly if at all.

Olympicwidow · 19/08/2012 17:43

Thanks for your help. I know time between period and ovulation can vary but thought between ovulation and period was pretty regular. She is using ovulation sticks but needs to plan 2 months out when to request my brother to be home - his job means he's away a lot an needs to request time to be at home.

Thanks again for all your help!

The luteal phase for each woman is usually about the same, but every woman is different and luteal phases can vary between 10 and 18 days. It's not an exact science unfortunately, otherwise we'd all get pregnant at the drop of a hat!

Oh if only Frankel, if only!

Olympic she needs to time it from her cycle length and when she's been getting positive OPKs. So for example for me, I average a 27 day cycle and usually ovulate around day 12 so I could work out (ish) when I would expect to get AF and then ovulate for a couple of months.
