Metformin and decreasing cycles

I am posting on behalf of a friend.

She was prescribed metformin for PCOS about six months ago, and it had the effect of reducing cycle length and making it more regular (it was anywhere bewteen 32 and 60 days before).
Her cycle had settled out at 32 days - great.
Only her last cycle dropped to 27 days taking her a bit by surprise..
Has anyone had any experience of cycle length seeming to settle down and become regular, only to change again (no change in dose or anything that might account for this). Is it normal?
