So so so so so confused...

Hi every one. I'm looking for some explanation for what is going on with my cycle. We have been TTC for a very very long time. Despite being given the all clear on hormone and progesterone levels etc. but I still have irregular periods. Minimum cycle length 22 max 39 so average is 33. I have been tracking it for 8 months. In this time I have also had a random 55 day cycle.

My concern is that yesterday (cd23)I had some bleeding like a light period (darker in colour and didn't seem fresh sorry if it's tmi) it has carried on a lil bit today. People always use the term spotting but I really don't understand what it means. So I was wondering if it was that.

My cycle is rarely under 28days so I don't think it is a natural period. So what could it be

Any advice welcomed!!!!

Also should I be concerned. As if my calculations are right I am yet to ovulate (I also have shown no signs to show that I have)

I think spotting is what you are describing, very light bleeding, enough for a panty liner but not enough for a pad/tampon.

Going on a 33 day cycle and you on cd23 I would guess you may have Ov about 7 days ago.

I'm a terrible symptom spotter, so will bump this for now and another lovely lady may be able to help you more.

Don't want to get your hopes up but I think it could possibly be implantation bleeding. Never had it myself but it is supposed to come a bit earlier than your normal period and much lighter. Assuming it goes away, try a hpt in a week or so.

Anoli does sound like implantation bleeding but again don't want to get ur hopes up.
I've just finished reading 'The Fertility Plan' and it has really helped clarify a lot for me. I've been TTC for a year with one miscarriage so I thought I'd had it all sorted but the book has given me a lot of info to work with.

Hi Anoli, I'm on day 71 (argh) of a ridiculous cycle and my cycles have been completely irregular since coming off the pill in December. I have had spotting on and off, particularly this cycle - brown light blood and discharge. Is a nightmare and I'm worried - I have suspected polycystic ovaries so you might need to be checked for that (unless you have been already).

I panic about the spotting as some people say it's not something to worry about, others say if you get that quite a bit something could be wrong. Anyway you're not alone - and I hope yours is implantation bleeding, I'd hoped mine was but unfortunately it wasn't so now desperately waiting for a new cycle and investigations into whether I ever ovulate naturally. Do you usually ovulate or at least do you think you do? I really sympathise with you anyway, good luck - as everyone keeps saying to me, it will happen (how do they know!) x

Thanks kyliep, it's so sad when your body plays tricks on you. I came off the pill and it took 3months to have anything that resembled a period! So your not alone. I've had all the standard hormone tests, and they've said PCOS is unlikely as they are fine. Just waiting on a sperm sample then will be referred for further (more invasive) tests. I do show signs of ovulation CM wise. I gave up temping as it was doing my head in and not showing a definative pattern. I hope things look up for you, and you get answers you need. Thanks for you well wishing. I'll post back positive or negative :)

We just got our sperm sample results back on Friday - low volume but fine otherwise. So I'm at near enough the same stage as you...roll on the invasive tests hey...

Keep in touch and lots of luck. It is sad and really easy to forget and not worry some days, and then it just hits you and you panic. So many people struggle though and then manage to have babies so am trying to be positive at the moment. Take care Smile

Back again, its been going on for 5days now and I'm worried. Like I said I know I'm irregular but it's always in the longer sense at 23dc is unheard of. I've had no cramps or sore boobs like I typically do, and I'm not heavy like I always am. This is weird first it was like brownish discharge and now it's thicker and almost black in colour still not loads but quite a fair bit now- nothing like my periods and it's not fresh by the looks of things. Wtf!? And so sorry if it's too much info. :(
