Really short cycle - what the hell?

I'm not TTC, but thought you ladies on here might be knowledgeable about this sort of thing.

My cycles are normally 23-28 days and I ovulate pretty much in the middle of my cycle although it does vary. I?m pretty in tune with when I ovulate because I get quite a lot of ovulation symptoms (CM, randiness, peeing more than normal, sometimes I get ovulation pain).

This month I had all the ovulation symptoms in the last few days, and I?m still getting them now, but I?ve just got AF ? I think it?s day 18 or 19. Can this just be a short cycle, or does it sound like I need to see a DR?

What the heck is going on????

Floot is it like a normal AF? Are you using contraception? Have you been bonking around your fertile period?

When do you normally ovulate? If it's light flow or brown discharge, it is quite possible that it may be implantation. Or, you may have ovulated early than you thought. If you did ov earlier then it could just be a random short cycle, although it is very short. Do you know your usual luteal phase length (time from ov to AF)?

Sorry for all the questions Blush

Hello Mooley,

Weeeelllll.... it's light pink spotting ATM. I never used to get spotting at all but I've got an IUD and since that was put in several months ago I get spotting for the first day so it looks like the beginning of a normal AF. I'm not sure of my luteal phase TBH but I think it's the fairly standard 12-14 days. I've noticed in the past if I've ovulated late due to illness then my period was late too, I've never had bleeding mixed in with ov symptoms like I'm having now!

I would monitor and if it does not turn into normal AF then I'd be tempted to POAS. Smile

Really?? Yikes!

Uh-oh; I take it that was not the advice you were hoping for!

Erm...........it could just be a slow-to-start AF. I was just trying to say that if it stops or does not get heavy like a normal AF then it could be implantation. Or, it might just be ovulation spotting. That can happen as well. And as you are having the symptoms of ovulation then it could just be that.

Let us know how you get on. :)

I had random mid cycle bleeding this month, a few days before ovulation. I wasn't pregnant or anything (trust me on this!) and I don't normally have bleeding at that time. I'm not on any hormonal contraception. It was just one of those things! My period had been a little unusual that month so I think things had got a little messed up.

Hi,

Sorry I didn?t come back to this thread last week ? no internet at home and my phone?s playing silly beggars so had to wait until I was back at work!

Anyway, it didn?t turn into AF ? it was literally just a few spots of pink blood on that one day, then cramping for that day and some of the next. I?m now on day 25 and would normally be expecting AF any day now.

I?m bloated and feeling pretty irritable and impatient which would suggest AF is on her way, but then I?m peeing a lot too ? normally the pre-AF bloating is down to water retention so I wouldn?t normally be peeing like I am now.

I am a bit concerned as if I am pregnant (and to be fair all I?m basing this on is some suspicious bleeding and cramps), I would presumably need to see a doctor fairly quickly as I?ve got an IUD in place. I?ve got a HPT sitting in my bag, but I know if I use it today it?ll be negative because a) I?m probably not pregnant and b) if I am it?ll be too early to test. But if AF turns out to be late, how long can I safely ignore possibly pregnancy symptoms?

Sorry for the questions, but I?m really unsure of what to do!
