Anyone about to start on Clomid or already on it? Any advice please?

Hello ladies,

I'm new here!

My Husband and I are TTC our first baby. I came off the pill about 14 months ago after long term use and we fell pregnant on cycle 3, but unfortunately it ended in an early miscarriage. We have been TTC ever since with no luck - we're now on cycle 11.

I have irregular cycles and some were very long - temping has confirmed that I was ovulating some months and not others, so I have been taking agnus castus since cycle 6 to help regulate my cycles. Whilst taking it, I have been ovulating but my cycles are still irregular (though not as long).

As we have been TTC for over a year now, we were referred to a fertility clinic - we have to have some tests done (blood, ultrasound scan & semen analysis) and if they all come back clear, then I am being given a prescription for Clomid. I can't do the first blood test until the start of cycle 12, so it will be cycle 13 before I can start taking it.

Has anyone else been through the same thing?

I'm really hoping this finally sorts my body out - it's so frustrating not knowing if and when I am going to ovulate each time.

Hello, I'm about to take Clomid next month. I'm 35, husband 38, we've been trying for 3 years. During this time we've had a miscarriage, and it looks like I've just had a chemical pregnancy (positive tests last week, now at 5 1/2 weeks I'm getting negatives tests and feel very periody). :-(

Anyway, I can't really offer any advice, but just to let you know this is the next stage of our journey. I've been prescribed 50mg of Clomid for 3 months. I'm not being monitored during this stage, they've just said they'll see me at the end of the 3 months 'if I'm not pregnant'. So I feel a bit abandoned with it all really. But I'm convinced that one of our problems is I don't ovulate every month, so I'm fingers crossed.

I'm not really able to add anything but just out of curiosity are you being monitored with scans during clomid treatment? How do they know it's working and whether to carry on etc?

Sorry to crash your thread- I think I'm a few steps behind you.. Think I'm not ovulating since MC at Christmas. We're having the scan/ SA before referral in Sept..

Good luck with it- people on here seem to get good results on Clomid.,

Hi Mildred, I have wondered that about clomid - i.e. surely they need to monitor you when you're on it? My husband has had sperm tests that have come back ok, and I've had blood tests and a lay and dye, all have come back ok. So because of this I feel we've been sent 'packing' with clomid, and aren't really getting a lot of support. We've been trying for nearly 3 years, so at the very least I would appreciate them monitoring me when I'm on it. I spoke to the fertility nurse and all she would say is 'Looking at all your test results the Consultants says there's no need to monitor you'. :-(

Sorry if this isn't encouraging news MiniMe, I'm trying to be as positive as I can and hoping that we have positive news whilst we're on it. Am trying not to get too frustrated with my fertility unit, although it's pretty hard,........

LouP19 So sorry for your loss - just read your other thread and I went through exactly the same thing, although we were only NTNP at the time. It's so devasting and I still get upset now, so I know how you're feeling. It's so frustrating that I'm still not pregnant too!

What is a lay and dye please?

We've just started our testing - I had my ultrasound today and it looks like I may have PCOS, so not sure what that means for us now.

Fingers crossed we all get those BFP's and sticky beans soon!

I think lay and dye was a typo for lap and dye which is a keyhole operation where they put blue dye into your uterus and then watch from the camera to make sure it flows out of the Fallopian tubes- to check they're patent.

I have only limited understanding of effect of PCOS on fertility but Metformin maybe a choice for you?

Ahh I see, well I didn't know what either was! :)

I've heard of that but not sure what it does - guess I'll just have to wait for all the test results to come back and go from there!
