Faint vertical line on CB preg test - could it be?

I have just done a clearblue test, af not due till Monday (I think - last bleed was v light for one day on Feb 13th, previous af was mid Jan, horrendously heavy and doc thinks may have been early m/c) and got a really really faint vertical line. I don't think I am imagining it, there is definitely something there.

Do the lines get darker the further on you get? Has anyone ever had a faint vertical which turned out not to be a BFP?

Don't know whether to get excited yet. Have read other threads and know everyone says "a line is a line", can anything other than a pg give you a faint line?

Both of my pregnancy's were shown by a very feint line. Rushed to my neighbour to get her to verify there was actually something there. Get another test and do it in a couple of days.

I think someone once posted a link to pics of BFP tests, showing you what a faint positive looks like - anyone know where these are? Thanks

AFAIK a line is a line, however I have read that it is only a line if you can see it when you are holding the test as you would a book if you were reading, holding the stick up to the light, squinting, or taking the test apart don't count!!

I hope you get the result you are after :)

I think the site was called www.peeonastick.com

I have a 3 yr old on my knee who was a very faint CB line, so faint that her father declared her a mirage :)
Congrats :)

Gosh! Thanks for this, we have been ttc since last August and as I am 39 was starting to lose hope. Will test again on Friday (clearblue website says leave it 3 days) if I can wait that long.

Thanks for the link NatalieJane, I'll take a look.

i had a faint line a week before due date which got a little stonger everyday from then on. By the time i was a week late then the pg line was stronger than the test line.

I have also had false posotives when ttcing though. As long as the line came up within the time limit and you can see it without squinting or holding it up to the light then im sure it will be a posotive. all i can say is test again tomorrow or day after and good luck xxxxx

NatalieJane · 07/03/2006 11:01

You're welcome!! Let us know how you get on :)

posyparker · 07/03/2006 11:11

Now I'm even more confused, I think it could be an evaporation line (have looked at peeonastick.com)although it appeared pretty much straight away. Will need to stop myself repeating the test until Friday, I think I'd rather have a really strong line and know for sure than another faint one! I can see why people go through so many pg tests, it's addictive isn't it? I've always been really bad at waiting!! Thanks for all help, will let you know what happens on Friday!! ....or possibly earlier if I can't stop myself!!

Come and join us on the March TTC threads ("Anyone hoping for a really positive March '06?" and "Chat thread March '06 part one") they have been very quiet this morning but there is usually someone to talk to :)

It might turn out to be a good thing that you have had this very faint line today though.

If you do turn out to be pregnant then this might help with dating as it seems questionable that the af from Feb 13th was a proper af to be counted as lmp.

If you did have an early m/c in January then it might have taken your body this long to ovulate again.

Just a thought.

my cb preg test came up exactly as yours did, mine was a bfp. horizonal line was fatter and darker, vertical ine thinner and feinter. congrats Grin

posyparker · 08/03/2006 08:59

Hey Spinach, thanks for that. Couldn't stop myself and did another CB test this morning, first wee, came up bfn!! Wish I hadn't really, got so excited yesterday. May still do another test tomorrow or Friday. Checked yesterday's line and it is def still there though (I know you shouldn't look at them after 10 mins.....

leave it a few days then try again (sounds so easy to say, i know how hard it is to wait), hope you get what you want.

wendy11 · 08/03/2006 21:05

I really don't want to rain on your parade but I have been through something similar recently. I got a BFP on 5th February (IVF pg), but the line was much much fainter than the test line. Tested again on the 6th and line was slightly darker. Tested again on 8th and line was fainter that test on the 5th. Went in for blood tests on the 8th which came back too low for a viable pg. I m/c on the 10th February. My consultant told me that I had, had what is known as a biochemical pg, where the embryo implants for a short time, but does not continue to divide and grow.

I really hope that this is not the case with you and that everything continues to go well.

I hope I have not offended you by posting this but I know of several people who have had similar experiences - some have gone on to have healthy pg's and some unfortunately have not.

Take good care.

KristinaM · 08/03/2006 21:14

I got a very very faint line on a pregnancy test last March. I only did it to humour Dh who decided he thought I was pregnant. This was a pretty stupid idea as I was 42, breast feeding and we were using contraception ( not at the same time of courseWink). The result is now 12 weeks old and asleep in his crib Smile

Good luck!

Angeliz · 08/03/2006 21:15

my last pregnancy the line was only just visibleSmile

posyparker · 09/03/2006 10:33

Wendy11 of course you haven't offended me, its good to read about similar experiences, good and bad. Even if it is a biochemical pg at least I suppose that proves I am ovulating and dp's count is OK!

Have 2 dd's from ex-dh, am 39 with dp who is 29 and we really want a baby together! So he's an unknown quantity and I am getting on a bit.....

Had a small amount of blood first thing this morning, could be af or could be implantation (am I just in denial?), I am just going to wait and see what happens. If it turns out not to be af I will test again on Monday, if it is af then we'll just keep on bding! Thanks for everyone's good wishes, Spinach I have just read what you have been through yourself and you still found time to give me advice - bless you hun! :o

hows it going posyparker? hope you're okay. It is common to bleed a bit so dont worry, it may not be af... have you done another test yet? you're welcome for the advice, yes, i had a crappy weekend, going back for more blood tests tomorrow so hoping all is well, they'll try a scan too. xx

posyparker · 10/03/2006 14:51

Thanks Spin, I am fine today, hope your blood tests/scan went well today and that everything is OK.

Hope this not tmi, but I had small amount of brown blood yesterday, bit of dark red first thing today and now nothing. Tbh its probably af, I normally get spotting like this for a couple of days, then a day or two of nothing, then af proper. Had awful dream about bleeding last night.

I don't think I'll be testing so early in future, but if no proper af by Monday I will try again!

spinach · 10/03/2006 15:46

posyparker · 13/03/2006 09:43

Definitely proper af! Have reset clock to CD5 and looking forward to bd in a week or so! I am feeling fine, well as fine as you can be with bloomin' af! Glad you're OK spinach xx
