Tests for PCOS while on the pill?

First post here, but I'm hoping someone with some knowlege of PCOS can help me with this.

I finally built up the courage today to go and speak to my doctor about my suspicios that I have PCOS (I have a small ammount of facial hair, on nipples and stomach, bad skin and am around 2 stone over weight.) I almost wish I hadn't bothered, she made me feel so small! She didn't seem to see why I was concerned as 'lots of women have PCOS and don't even know about it, its not a big deal'. As I plan to start ttc soon it does feel like a big deal to me, and I was hoping for a bit more sympathy to be honest.

Enough self pity and onto the point.... She suggested a scan and blood tests to be done on day 7 of my cycle (I'm not sure what all of the tests were but know that thyroid and testosterone were in there). Firstly I have not heard of anyone having tests for PCOS on day 7? Secondly, I am on Gederal oral contraceptive. I asked the doctor if this would make a difference to the blood test and she said no. However she did later say that the pill can mask the symptoms of PCOS. So surely if it is masking the symptoms and regulating my hormones then the tests will be pointless?

Sorry for the long post but if anyone can help I would be so grateful. I'm finding this really stressful and don't want to go through tests if they are going to be a waste of time.

Thanks Smile
