Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before. Just wondering for those who have/had the Implanon implant, in your experience how long has it taken to conceive after having it removed? I had mine fitted in Oct 2010, it expires Oct 2013 but I'll be having it removed before then as DP and I have discussed trying for a baby sooner. I've had few problems with my implant, except for a bit of weight gain and bloating around the time my period was supposed to be due, so I'm also nervous about getting it taken out because I had terrible PMS before, which stopped completely after having it fitted.

I have heard mixed reports about the implant, some say fertility returns to normal instantly, others say it can take months. Would just like a bit of personal perspective as I'm sick of reading statistics! Thanks all. Smile

I got mine out in jan 2011, started TTC in April and fell pregnant first attempt. Now have a lovely DD who will be six months tomorrow.

I had horrendous pms after it came out tho. To the point that my sister stopped talking to me because she could never anything right.

Got a new implant in when DD was 3 weeks old.

I had mine out May this year. First AF end of June. Just going onto cycle 3 of TTC. Tho we haven't exactly been trying full on. My PMS was awful first cycle. But has settled down now. Better than before from what I remember.

Can totally relate to both your PMS comments. Dreading mine coming back when implant is removed! Getting pregnant (quickly) would totally outweigh any negative feeling about my pre-implant symptoms returning though. I have read a few stories about women who conceived whilst still on the implant, but I think that's due to it not being fitted correctly or getting dislodged in the arm (gross...) I won't be in that camp, but when I get it removed, I think my biggest issue will be to remember that doing 'the deed' this time is for a purpose and not instinctively reach for the condoms! Still have some of the 'teenage guilt' about sex! (I'm 26 btw!)

One of my friends who had implanon had a constant light period for nearly a year before AF stopped completely! Glad that wasn't me so it could be worse I suppose! Guess one implant to suit all reacts to individuals differently. Because I had such a smooth transition onto the implant, hopefully it'll be the same coming off. Smile

My sil is pregnant with it in! She tried to get it removed but they can't find it and she's now pregnant so it's obviously gone wrong somewhere.

I had mine removed a year ago and we have had a few accidents and now properly ttc but only the last month or so and not had bfp yet but could have been lucky the other months.

I hear more & more negative things about implanon as I delve deeper into the internet, so trying not to let it panic me as we've not been using back-up BC. That said, it wouldn't be a disaster if it happened, as getting preg was our intention anyway... but not at all ideal with implant still in as that apparently gives a higher risk of m/c Sad

This article from last year is quite worrying if accurate:

Had my first implanon removed in July 2008 and DS1 arrived July 2009. Had 2nd implanon removed August 2011 and DS2 is due in 4 weeks!

The first time we swi from when it was removed so it was about 4 cycles to bfp and last time we only actually started ttc in November and got bfp on first cycle - I am very fortunate to have had an easy time ttc.
