Have had unprotected sex just after period. Have a baby under 1 already and not planning another right now. Are we okay to keep having unprotected sex until middle of cycle when I ovulate or is it safe because its imposs to get pg now?

If you have sex before you ovulate you have a good chance of getting pregnant. Why aren't you using contraception if you don't want another baby?

Please don't have unprotected sex, it is not safe.

NicolaHazel · 08/07/2012 07:54

You need to take into account how long his sperm can live inside you (about 3-5 days or so) and factor that in.

If you actively don't want another baby, I'd suggest always using protection.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/07/2012 07:59

Why would it be impossible for you to get pregnant? As previous poster says sperm can live for up to five days. I don't understand why you aren't using contraception? There's a lot of choice available these days

Ths any sound dumb but if I have just finished my period I thought it was impossible to get pregnant as I won't ovulate til mid cycle/next week?

Surely you can't get pregnant without ovulating?....getting nervous now.

We were using condoms but they finished so we chanced it a couple times.....

Some people ovulate earlier than others. A couple of days after your period it's very, very unlikely but I would never say never

lovechoc · 08/07/2012 19:40

If you don't want another baby, use contraception. No point analysing when you ovulate or when you don't. If you want to play it safe, best to use contraception all of the time. Sorry if that sounds frank, but it really is the crux of it.

sheeplikessleep · 08/07/2012 19:40

How long is your cycle? How predictable / consistent is your cycle?

We DTD 7 days before ovulating (I used an ovulation kit), when we were ttc (DH was away in few days leading up to ovulation).

DS2 (the result!) has just stopped his pre-'going to sleep' chatter. It happens. I would never have believed I could have fallen pregnant that cycle, but I did (and we were ttc).

Alabama100 · 08/07/2012 22:11

obviously I will be using contraception in the long term but on these two occasions we didn't...just wanted to clarify that it was impossible for me to get pregnant literally straight after my period.

Thanks everyone.

Thans sheep.....hopefully I should be okay...it was only twice and only 2 days after my period had finished but will be more careful from now on(!)

Hate to say but i have been told it is possible to get pregnant while on your period tho highly unlikely you could still be so i wouldn't chance it any more!

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 08/07/2012 22:41

I was given advice to have sex as soon as my period finishes as I am TTC as sperm live for a few days and that way they may already be in the right place when I do ovulate!

Sariska · 08/07/2012 22:44

I reckon you've got the message now Wink but just to add that I got pg on the last day of my period. I'm not exactly sure when that was in relation to ovulation but at least 5 and perhaps 7 days before.....

Pipbin · 08/07/2012 22:48

All you women who get pregnant at random times of the month when those of us diligently having sex at exactly the right time and failing!!

Alabama100 · 08/07/2012 23:09

Yes definetly got the message now(!) thanks all.
