TTC after 3 Depo-Provera injections?

Hi

DH and I are TTC. I had 3 injections in total. My last injection ran out 3rd April. (I am new at this and don?t know all the abbreviations, so please forgive!)
I have always have very light periods, lasting only a few days. They can also be a tad irregular. I had the implant in for 3yrs prior to the injections. Whilst I had the implant in I only have at most 10 periods. These were very light, so times I just had stomach cramps and no blood. Since I have come off the injection I have had no period, no stomach cramps. How long after coming off am I likely to get back to normal and hopefully conceive? Is there anything I (or doctor) can to do kick start it again?!

Any help or ideas would be very appreciated!

I don't know about conceiving, as I haven't managed that yet, but I can tell you about my experience with Depo.

Started on Depo in the summer of 99 for 8 years. Couldn't get it in Oz without jumping through hoops, so came off it and onto the pill (with one month unprotected) for 14 months. During that time, even though I was on the pill, I barely had any withdrawal bleed, getting through less than a third of a large box of Tampax the entire time.

Then, back on the injection for 3 years, last one 'expired' on 21st Feb, so I started the pill the week before. This time, I had normal withdrawal bleeds from the start. I was on the pill for 4 packs (running two together) then came off it.

I had a normal withdrawal bleed, then a 29 day cycle before a 'natural' AF.

No idea if ovulation / conception are still affected by it, but I seem to be at least partially working. And I'm not sure I was when I came off it that first time.

It's all individual though, I imagine, like this entire TTC process. :-/

thanks for your reply Nicola!

I just wondered if there was anything to do to kick start your body again!

guess i'll have to be patient!

I don't think there is.

My only difference is being fitter and weighing less than last time. No idea if that's a factor though.

I was on depo for several years and was told before starting it that it could take a year for the body get back to normal - I don't whether only taking it 3 times affects that though.

When we wanted to start ttc the doctor advised switching to the pill for a year so that I'd no longer be under any effects of the depo - a very long wait!!

I wasn't told to wait to TTC. I was told that it was a good idea to go onto the pill though, rather than coming off Depo to TTC. But as I discussed with my GP, not getting pregnant wouldn't necessarily be as a result of the injection, though it may be a factor. You can get pregnant straight away coming off Depo like you can anything else.
