CAN DATING SCANS BE WRONG IN DATING A PREGNANCY ??

hi all... Im new to all of this and the subject has been bothering me for days tmi but here it goes, i had sex on the 16th and 17th and 19th of march then on the 20th had my period,was on for 3 days heavy (normal)i then had sex on the 30th and 31st of march was due to have period again on 17th of april but didnt come on. indicating to me i was pregnant i then had sex on the 2nd of may . i already have 3 children so i no theres no midife appointments early on in pregnancy so decided to leave it a few weeks before i took it further, after seeing the doc and having a scan booked due date was done at lmp so 25th of dec 2012, making me 15 weeks, then had scan on 30th of june and was told i was only 9+6 making me 10 weeks on sunday(just gone) completely confused ...how could i only be 10 weeks ??? i had already missed aprils period ....can dating scans be wrong ????

My guess would be that you ovulated very late, ie around or just after the 1st may. If you did not have sex after the 31st March except for the 1st of May, then you possibly only concieved then. Did you do a pregnancy test after your missing period? If so at what point did you get your first positive test?

Dating scans are only really accurate around the 11 to 13 week mark, before and after that they are inaccurate for dating. Early scans can be out by up to 2 weeks in some women, due to the tilt of the uterus. Later scans are inaccurate too as babies grow at different rates and to different sizes.

Have you been offered another scan in 2 weeks? This would be able to more accurately date the baby and check for growth too.
